A mentor friend was just chatting with somebody who says they changed some setting and now llTargetOmega doesn't work - she doesn't see anything rotating any more. Her stuff, other peoples stuff, various locations. She can see particles and animated textures. This is the 1.21.6 view on XP.
Anybody ever seen this before?

Advanced->Network->Velocity interpolate?
ETA: yep, that setting will still do that.

There's a setting Advanced, Rendering, Animate textures, and a different setting Advance, Rendering, Features, Dynamic Textures.
Maybe it's one of those.

I always wondered what Velocity Interpolate did.
What about Ping?

What about Ping? Ha, opened an infrequently used browser and this thread was still up there. Velocity interpolate's real job is to ride over lag and packet loss, keeping things in motion on their last known course until a fresh update comes through from the server. It makes the world look a lot smoother, but it's also the main culprit behind rubberbanding. That it effects llTargetOmega also is just an implementation artifact. Ping interpolate adds a couple of variables to velocity interpolate. The velocity gets weighted a little to take ping times and time dilation into effect. Things have to be pretty dire before this would make a noticeable difference, and at that point there are probably enough missing messages that using it would amount to turd polishing.
