SL theft insurance is it a scam?

I used the new search feature today on self and found this site that listed a painting I had made many years ago for sell.
I went to investigate not finding the painting I thought I check out who owns it what they offer.
One of the things they offered was SL theft insurance here little blurb about the info

Anyone actually believe they would protected? Is it type of scam that people should know about?
I went to Money Helix Center in Muk they are connected with them.

I wouldn't trust any business that piggybacks onto a free hosting service . The bad spelling is far from encouraging either.

They'd probably just take your money and then find excuses to not pay out when you have a claim, much like RL insurance companies .

I don't know if it's a scam or not but there's a simple question to ask yourself - what government oversight will they be falling under? The answer is probably the same one as the SL banks...NONE. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

they are under friend's name very old information though....
Money Helix Center, Muk place is pretty empty mostly has stuff for rent I did see for sell near by Sarah Nerd's palm trees not sure if they got permission for that.
They got lot of buidlers paradise in set boxes for sell,etc.
Only one art shop that seems like its all photo sourced maps,etc

You should assume that any service that promises anything in the future in SL is a scam until you have evidence otherwise. And then it may still be a scam.

Yeah I know just thought others might wanted to know about it.
I am more distressed they sold a painting very few have and I sure in heck didn't give them permission to sell it.
I have no clue where they had it.
Oh well.
Another reason to stop sharing anything I make.
I make things and share with very few people.
If they can find item and sell it anyone else can be next.
Then they have the gull to sell theft insurance or claim too.....GRR

FD, if they're selling a painting of yours and you didn't give permission for them to do so, file a DMCA takedown notice right away. If they're selling it in SL, file the notice with LL. If they're selling it on their googlepages site, file it with googlepages.

I hope you don't let this stop you from sharing your creations publicly. Theft is a fact of life, unfortunately. Don't let it defeat you.

They sound just like scammers, or misguided fools. Who can appropriately value risk in this game, and ensure that they themselves don't get ripped off? It's silly.

I realized in my emotional mood I did something wrong and I can't delete the thread or where someone repeating mentioning the business name....Ugh sorry Strife and all. I won't do it again.I tracked down the painting.
For some reason the search engine said it was for sell for 90L.
I found it in one their conference rooms and from the history transactions at the time I did have some type of interaction with person where I paid him 190L but I don't remember him.
It's their builder who owns and deed it to the group.
But when I went and checked it out it wasn't for sell unless there is another. I can't find proof other then its listed for sell at their place.
It showed up within the second life offline search.
I am not going to stop making things or sharing when I can because that just be too depressing to me but I felt like it when I saw that.
Lot of my artwork only people see is if they go to blog or I give them copies.
I spend literally hours or days sometimes on and rarely ask for money for any of it.
It just was bit distressing to see.
Only around 10 other owners in entire world should have FD Spark's Beach at the most because I sold it 3 times and gave it way 7 times at most..

Heh! Other than a paragraph about their services, there's a line "Information is temporarily unavailable" which either means its gone or they havent finished their line of B.S. yet. I call "SCAM" on this one.

Theft protection is called copyright law, it applies to SL.

Any other "theft protection" is a Ginko wannabe.

One of the first rules of any professional business is correct english and grammar on all correspondence.

One of my work colleagues (who is rather anal about those sort of things) almost started crying when I showed her the front page because I had so many mitsakes on it.

If you're sensitive to those sort of things... whatever you do, don't click on the "ToS" page.

Incidently, I wonder if "GMG Management" (http://www.gmg-mgt.com/) know that their name is being used.

Are there any protections whatsoever on financial transactions in SL? I don't just mean insurance and banks, I mean absolutely anything, shopping and not getting the item described for example.

Nope, only the goodwill of the seller, and no doubt that gets sorely tested at times up to the point where they give up too.

I think you are right. I am seeing more and more notecards these days, on entering a store or outlet in SL, with long lists of what the seller will or wont do, regarding replacement of lost items, amount of help they will give etc. Sometimes you get two or three cards giving terms and conditions of sales and service after sale. It makes shopping rather tiresome, but no doubt it is important to the seller to convey how far they are prepared to go.

I regret the days when sellers just used to say things like "If anything goes wrong, we will help you all the way"

I don't have notecards galore, but my policy is relatively simple; unless I'm able to confirm that an item was no delivered, then I can't make any guarantees.

If the item is no-transfer then I will give a copy if I have a confirmed transaction (money received). But if I ever release an item that is transferable then I can't justify doing this, as I don't know the person hasn't just given away or sold their original copy.

There is definitely a fault in that offline search engine FD - it is showing things that I have *bought* as well as the products I have for sale.
