OK...I looked in all the FAQs and forum for the answer to this question and unless I'm blind (which may be the case) I could not find the answer.
QUESTION: how do you give that extra special expensive gift you just bought to that extra special girl, when the gift item you just bought is NON-TRANSFERRABLE?
I really think she would look a LOT better in that dress and beachwear wrap than I would!
So if the question has already been answered, my appologies, but please be kind enough to reply with a link to the answer.
Peace...

You don't. Sorry. You buy her one, using a gift function on an appropriately equipped vending machine, or contact the vendor and have them send her a copy.

You contact the seller to get it to said girl... most of us would be happy to sell an item and deliver it to your gf.

I don't have a link to the answer, but as far as I'm aware, you can't. There's no way to give a non-transferable item to someone else. You can't even give your alt a non-transferable item, even though technically it's still you. You could try sending an IM or a notecard to the owner of the store where you purchased the item and explain your dilemma. In some cases, they might give you a new item with transferrable permissions, but no copy or something like that. However, they also might not. I have notecards from a couple stores that say the owner won't refund you for a non-transferrable item, since you can't give it back to them to receive your next copy. But it's worth a try so most are pretty understanding about situations like that. Next time you might want to give the lindens to the person and take them to the store to puchase the item themselves if it's non-transfer. Good luck!

If an item is non-transferrable that siomply means you cannot in any way transfer it to someone else. You could contact the owner of the shop and ask them if they would send the lovely lady the outfit directly if you pay for it. Alternatively, many shops also have gift certificates or gift vendors. Check for those. Good luck.

Or, one looks for that creator on ShopOnRez or SLX, and uses the delivery function there.

I'm Not So Sure About That

I've tried to get people to contact me back about getting things for the wife. I find most Shop Keepers here are non-responsive. Funny thing is my wife does not seem to have this problem. I think there is a sex bias for designers thinking men customers are not serious; so why waste the time.

Well, a *good* clothing merchant will usualy be happy to aid you in delivering a gift, at the time of purchase. Most do use either a gift voucher system or web-based delivery, like SL Exchange or SL Boutique (Or whatever SLB changed their name to this week...).
Those merchants who have neither option handy can still take a cash L$ payment from you and deliver the present to your "special someone" on your behalf. I've done that several times.
However... As for the copy you already bought of the dress... Well, that will be up to the merchant. After all, they have no way of being sure that you *don't* look cute in that dress, in a female form that you only wear at special times. *grins*. And since it is no-transfer, you can't 'give it back for a refund.'. Still, most will accept the "I made an honest mistake" case, and will help you out.

I would try explaining to the creator what has happened and they may agree to send another to who you wanted it for. I have had a couple of newbies in the past buy without realising the permissions and have sent another copy to their intended recipient free of charge.

Thanks for all the great responses: If all goes well and Lori accepts my proposal (we are already in our own 2 member only very private group), and If we were married, would a creator of the item (to give her) be able to verify this noob and his woman are serious about each other? Is there a public marriage certificate that can be verified? I hear what you are saying about noobs who are blundering into quickie lopsided relationships that shop owners get disgusted with, and refuse to respond to the poor misfortunate noob. Lori and I are mature, level headed adults in our 40's. Who spend most of our spare time chatting, dancing, and supporting a few of the SL DJ's... (Not simply doing 'you know what'). I would love to see Lori's enjoyment when wearing the most beautiful formal dress I have ever seen.

Um, no one said that, and very few creators will be interested in your personal situation in any case. If you (or whoever) does't hear back, it may just be that the creator's IMs were capped. Try dropping them a notecard instead. *shrug*
