Hi. My (male) av has blond hair. Regardless of whether I change out shape or skin, I get a base of very short cropped short dark hair even while wearing a bald head, as opposed to totally bald. This dark hair, even though very cloe cropped, shows when I wear my somewhat whispy blond hair. Does anyone have any suggestions on why this is and how it can be corrected? I'm not quite sure why I can't find a completely bald base for a guy. I have several but none seem to cover the close cropped dark hair. Thank you!

Many of the hair creators supply true "bald caps". I will check my inventory and see if I have one that is transfer.

It might be painted on his skin. Would that still show with a bald cap?

Is it easy to make one? Isn't it just Edit Appearance then turning down all the sliders and maybe using the transparent texture from the library?
/me has always wondered about this but never got around to checking it out...

I've checked all the sliders in appearance and none have any affect. We thought it might be painted on the skin or shape as well so we traded them out and still no change. Thanks very much for any help figuring this out. Tried all my bald caps and even a bald cap supplied by a skin creator with a new skin demo...same thing..no effect. Changed shape thinking it was painted on..no effect.

Thanks to Brynna we found out these skins (and MOST male skins but not all) have short black PAINTED on hair that can't be covered. The owner was too busy to talk to me...SO...no sale. (I sent a notecard and they said we're just too busy with inventory to help you right now LMAO) Skin creators: If you're not making bald skins for males, you're losing out to any guy who buys and wears BLOND hair in SL. And when you merchants are "too busy" to talk or answer notes, NO SALE. LOL Skins just lost 5000L Thanks Brynna!!!!!! Mwah! xo

Belleza has male hair with blond painted on hairbase. I wouldn't recommend it totally unless you demo one of their skins with the hair you want to use. It is very hard to find just the right shade of prim blond hair that matches the painted on hair. Most good hair sellers include both a painted on hair and a totally bald head. Demo is your friend

A bald wig cap should cover anything painted on the skin.
Denver, I just sent you a couple bald caps. One thing to watch on them is that some will change your eyebrows. I don't think either of the two I sent do this.

Those "bald wigs" just set the avatar mesh hair length to zero. They can't affect the skin itself. Most skin makers that do paint the 'roots' of the hair on a skin do offer a wide range of scalp hair colors, including completely bald. This is usually specified when ordering that particular skin. It does make it harder though for those of us who like to change our hair color. My normal hair color is auburn, and so the Human skins that I have tend to have auburn eyebrows and scalp hair. Makes it look a bit odd though when I choose to wear a black hairstyle...

Mwah! xo I would assume you got one of the free skins, which you might have paid for.. But most skins I see for sale that are actually good are in fact bald. Also, if you had the skin what do you mean no sale? Apparently you bought it? or was it a demo.. sometimes skins come with and without hair.

I don't understand what you mean. As many others has stated, most male skin sellers who's any good provide both painted on and BALD heads. Do you demo the skins? And read the descriptions? Some just use a letter behind the skin name like (b) to say what's bald. But it's no standard letters/descriptions for this. If you try on the first skin in a demo pack and that has hair painted on, do you assume all have painted on hair?

http://www.slmen.com/category/skinpedia/This might be of help. As I already said, Belleza offer BALD hair versions. Bare skin on the head, no painted on head. I don't mean bald caps or eyebrows.

Different colored hairbases. http://www.adam-n-eve.co.uk/?cat=9If you read under the pictures: "Each skin comes with a bald scalp and painted on head hair as standard so you can choose the close cropped look, be bald, or wear with prim hair. Doesn’t cost anything to try one!"

Try Redgrave or Belleza. ETA: Adam n Eve is a good option, too, as Marianne pointed out. If customer service is important, try enquiring first with a note card before even shopping at each place. Make sure to read any preferences they have for communication. Those will be in their profile first page and/or Picks. (Perhaps keep in mind how busy they likely are this time of year in RL and SL both. This might affect reply speed and crankiness.)

How odd
12-18-2009 22:13
Women's AVs are always bald, but men's sometimes have painted on hair???!!! My partner doesn't have many AV's but all of them are bald. Given how many men shave their heads now days, it makes no sense.

Given how many men shave their heads now days, it makes no sense. I must disagree. Female skins has painted on hair too. But no serious designers create a option with only painted on hair. League, Belleza, Lelutka, LAQ, Redgrave are skins for females who offer painted on hairbase. Both versions included. It's many more too. Nice to wear them with a hat and just a chignon, a hair knot. I can remember female skin designers who offer only bald scalp and no hair options too, like Curio and Dutch Touch. This is painted on blond hairbase from League, no prim hair worn. I think the OP had bought a ripped off skin that had some different facial hair options added. Those who steal others work aren't having any shame at all, I have seen many versions of the stolen male Naughty skin from 2006 for sale. Some cost up to 1000L. This skin was stolen with painted on hairbase, so it's not included any bald scalps with it.

The OP was using demos. Not stolen. He was in the process of shopping.

Ah. I seem to remember some designers including a sample of all makeups in a demo pack, but just one of them with bald scalp, the rest with hairbase painted on. Usually a notecard explains what comes in the pack when they buy the skins.
I am not sure, maybe they think it's too big packs/too confusing if they pack all in one? For men, it can be all facial hair options, but just one with bald scalp? Anyway, the OP got some suggestions to skins here, hopefully he found some he like.
