Finding Out Who Abandoned Group Owned Land

Hi there as a basic account member I cannot use Live Chat or submit a ticket about this, so I was hoping someone here can help me.

I was in a group that owned half a sim, we were in the process of moving land, we had cleared all our stuff but still had a week left.
Overnight the estate owner reset the land for sale and now someone else is on our land, I asked her about it and she said she found it abandoned and that one of the owners in the group had to have abandoned it, yet all of us deny it and she says that she does not get any notification.

I would really appreciate any suggestions or advice as to how to find out who abandoned it.

Thanks

As far as I know there's no way to find out. It sounds like this was on a private island, which means that anyone who is an estate manager or group member with land rights could have done it. I'm an EM, and standard procedure for renting land to a new tenant is to force the land to be abandoned by the previous owner/group. Group access isn't needed. So it could have been one of the EMs who knew you were moving out.

EDIT: And if the land was emptied out, that's a pretty clear indication that the tenant is gone and the land can be re-rented, so I wouldn't hold it against the estate owner, since it sounds like she simply found the land abandoned and didn't reclaim it herself. I question the ethics of the one that abandoned, though.

Well the estate owner had been by and knew it was empty but I told her I would notify when we went to abandon it. She heard nothing from me and when she tpd in later she found it had been abandoned, she doesn't strike me as the dishonest type who would lie to make more money, but the other option is that one of my co-owners is lying, which isn't any better lol

Thanks for the reply Maya.

You're not taking estate managers into account though. An estate, whether it's one sim or fifty, can have up to 10 EMs per sim. Most estates in my experience have at least a few EMs per sim, and often have the full 10. Any EM can abandon land, not just the group owners or the estate owner.

So if the owner didn't do it and your fellow group owners didn't do it, then it must have been an EM. EMs are one of the things private estates have that mainland areas don't.

If you had a week left you should have got a refund for that week even if the land was abandoned.

You say the estate owner reset the land for sale, do you mean your group was trying to sell the plot? If so was that against the terms of the covenant?

Hi firstly there were no other Estate Managers other than the owner and her husband and what I meant by set to sale was she had a buyer lined up and when she found it abandoned the brought them in and sold it to them immediately.

I had enquired about a refund as we were going to leave early but she said if we left it early there we would not be entitled to a refund, so we had decided to just keep it for the week as we didn't want to waste that money. But she says it was abandoned.

One of the other owners is a premium member and is submitting a ticket on the SL website as they keep records of when land is abandoned, just a shame you have to be a premium member to ask lol.

Some estate owners define "abandoned" as not having objects on the parcel anymore, and reclaim it. Since it's a dispute between the estate owner and a renter, it's doubtful that LL would get involved. Good luck sorting it all out.

If the landlord is ethical, he or she should refund for the final week of rent. Essentially, they are getting paid twice for the same period of time, both by the old tenant and the new. If this were a RL rental, the civil courts would look unfavorably on a landlord who moves a new tenant in before the old tenant's term is up, regardless of whether the old tenant had already moved out all of his or her stuff. However, as this is SL, there is no civil authority to appeal to and the landlords can pretty much do as they wish.
