Thankfully, not mine, but it's the second time this comes up in my immediate vicinity and I'd rather know the proper answer for once. The same happened to me, but I remembered mine eventually. Unfortunately, I can't expect everyone to do it. :)

A "No payment info on file" user forgot their password. For some silly reason they didn't save it in their browser, so there's no hope of getting it out of there either.

When they go to the forgotten password web form, they only get one choice (no security question, no nothing) -- "how much did you pay last". The answer that sounds closest to correct (zero, since no payment ever occurred) doesn't fly.

Well, what is the correct answer in this case?

...kind of a pain to do from Russia. :(

They could try putting in a Guest ticket, but I don't know if LL will reset it without talking to the actual person.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I know this is really strange, but did they try the number 0?

I was just going to suggest that, worth a try, might be exactly what they are looking for.

I wonder if it might be the amount they paid for their last in-world transaction. Even if they are no payment on file they may have bought something in-world with money earned from camping or something. It's worth a try if they can remember what they bought last in sl.

I heard people using Skype to make long distance calls to Linden Labs but
not sure how it works.

Yes they did, and I mentioned that in the last sentence of the OP. Otherwise I wouldn't even ask.

"0" is considered wrong. So is "0.00", and also "NA", "N/A"...

The amount of the last inworld transaction sounds like an idea and should be available in the main log, even though as far as I remember, the question explicitly refers to money paid to LL. But you see... it's also far more likely than not to be 0, and that answer has already been tried. :)

I'm puzzed here just tried "Forgot password"
It asked me to answer 1 of 3 questions.
Why dosn't OP answer one of the other 2?

When I was having issues with my account from 2003, nothing I enter seemed
to work but I don't remember friends nor my purchases when I did it and
I forgot what the third question was.

Because, paradoxically, there are no other questions in that particular form.

(I wouldn't associate with people who can't see other questions if they are actually present, so I trust that is indeed the case.)

Well, darn. Ask the person if they bought some L$ in the past and if they did, how much.

I remember getting only that silly question when I had to get the password after that major reset due to hacking. But then a refresh brought about one of the secret questions I had set up.

Only thing the person might be able to do is call.

if they can't remember their password and can't get it through online means or don't have the email that was sent to them or did not write it down..
the only thing i can see is them getting in contact direct in some way to LL and proving who they are..
email them and ask for the different ways to contact them direct..maybe they can do it through email
i don't think they are gonna find it otherwise online..
i always keep a pad with my passwords in my dresser because i've lost them so many times in the past and my browsers are cleared every time i close them..

i hope they find it

When I did the "forgot password" option on an account that did not get validated (because the email never came), the ONLY option I had was the payment info thing - which of course, is not really applicable on an account that has never logged in. As Rika says, entering the number 0 in various forms, or spelling it or trying the NA options do not work. With one of the accounts that I actually use, I do get 3 questions - 'last billed amount', 'friends' and "security question of mother's maiden name". In the case of that other account, I had to call LL.

I did start with 'No payment info on file', didn't I?

I think this behavior should be treated as a web site bug and JIRAed. Not that this will do any good...

Actually last year it was a bug issue LL had discussed if I remember right but I don't knowif they ever corrected it.
If you got no payment info on file one would assume you've never bought L$ ever but
because once you do they have payment info.
In my case though I had forgotten everything so it wouldn't have mattered what I had typed in the one of the three questions so even if it was bug I wouldn't have known how to test it.
You just need a way to call LL cheaply and talk to them directly even from Russia.
Maybe you can write them?
