Yay!

[UPDATE 08:21 am PDT] Our upstream provider is continuing work on their routing issues. Alas, we have no new details to report.

Maybe they will make a [very important announcement] soon

Out the ISP Upstream provider please.

Serious minds want to know.

Could it be level3.net?

I realize that it's more fun to bash LL about whatever information they do attempt to give us, but i see reports like this as a sign of better service than the "grid is down, just wait around" methodology of keeping users informed that we used to see. Professional IT organizations tend to have guidelines that include hourly updates when systems are down. Sometimes that update inevitably is "nothing to report." But at least it's not a gaping silence.

A recent good example of this kind of communication with technology customers was ThePlanet, a Texas ISP, who had a fire and explosion in their electric room. They used a forum system to do hourly updates, and a lot of them ended up "nothing to report." But I was suitably impressed by their communicating during what came down to a massive outage to their users. LL can take a lesson from the model. (Take a peek at http://forums.theplanet.com/index.php?showtopic=90185 if you are curious how they handled their communications.)

Edited to add: The incident above has nothing to do with the ISP issues that LL is having today. Just thought I'd better clarify that. It's just a laudable example of frequent communications during a service outage.

I am just amazed that LL has no redundancy (or use vendors with redundancy) network connections. Even our dinky little office has 2 pipes from different connectivity vendors, so that if one goes down another one picks up the slack.

from what I understand this is an internal server at ll SF campus. so my guess is that it's the same isp.
