So, does anyone miss the Telehubs at all now they've been gone for so long? Personally I do. As much as I find it helpful to be able to teleport directly to my store I liked meeting people around them and seeing the sights as we progressed to our ultimate destination. Now we just TP straight to where we need to be we just don't see as much of the areas without going looking deliberately.
Anyone else got fond memories of them?

Anyone else got fond memories of them? Yes, all the people who paid a premium to own land next to one of them.

Nah. All I ran into was bs builds around them by people with more money than brains or talent. Lagged the area witha ll TPing in and then having to fly to get where I wanted was a PITA.
I meet lotsa people everyday in my day-to-day dealings in SL, and I still do go sightseeing to see what's out there. I'll do even more if LL fixes the sim-to-sim crossings so driving the roads is FUN again instead of frustrating.

I got in after the Telehubs were gone. I feel kind of sad about that. It would be nice to have central areas where people just hang out. Now you can find them but when you first arrive to SL it is disorienting and can seem abandoned if you don't go to the right places.
Maybe the telehubs aren't as fond as I think they were but it is a nice idea.

When did they actually dissapear? Until I stumbled onto a rezzed copy on one of the volunteer sims a few weeks ago I didn't even know what they looked like. Since LL seems to care about "video game history" ( http://www.secondlifeinsider.com/2007/10/24/ll-to-help-the-library-of-congress-preserve-videogames/) they should preserve "important" SL historical builds as well. And it would be fun to log on to the early, early SL as well .

I think telehubs were in use for a few weeks when I first started. Of course, my pc back then was so abysmally slow, that I would routinely spend ages trying to fly through something that hadn't rezzed.

Decided to be "unlazy" and look it up . http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/TelehubSome of those builds look nice, shame if they're gone now . The Waterhead telehub is the one that's rezzed on one of the volunteer sims. Seems they were removed around December 2005 to answer my own question .
