3 weeks ago i purchased $850 USD in Linden.

It went through my account to my paypal immediately, and was debited.

And then 72hours later, paypal debited to me again. $850 usd, which came directly from my National City bank account since i had my debit card linked to my paypal for bankup funding.

My bank reversed the charges on paypal after i went there and pulled 15 minutes of tears. So now my paypal account is in a negative status.

Paypal did same thing to us in 1999.

I won't ever trust that place again.

Ever.

Beware.

Thank you Briana.

I don't much like paypal myself. For instance when I didn't get an item I ordered and the merchant wouldn't refund I declined to pay the charge, and Paypal just froze MY account while doing nothing to get the matter resolved.

I finally just paid it and the item was mailed but I hadn't wanted it for a reason...I wanted a refund. Not the crappy item. So yeah, credit cards tend to do better by their clients at least in my opinion.

I know many love paypal and I have nothing against it implicitly, if that works for them.

What sucks even more is that i purchased a 9800GT from newegg and it doesn't work out of the box, and newegg can only do a refund on it. So if i send it back, it gets refunded into that paypal account and goes to that bogus debt they are hitting me for.

So right now i look to my right on the floor is a useless hunk of red plastic with chips on it and a big old MSI fan.

That's awful. Truly suckworthy.

I didn't find any recourse to paypal's putting the squeeze on me and I lost faith in their claim they will protect against bad purchases and such.

Didn't give me a ton of faith that should *heaven forbid* an account be hacked and a bank account drained that they would do a blessed thing to resolve it.

Wow - I have had a paypal account for years and have never had any problems at all. Major bummer there.

Have you two ever disputed a payment or asked for a refund from a merchant who wouldn't give one, etc.? Curious.

Yeh, all the paypal horror stories I've run into over the years are why I set up a "firewall" checking account for paypal... the most they can do me for is the $100 minimum balance. And after all that... I've had no problems.

I guess it's like backups only being needed if you don't do them, or washing your car to make it rain, ...

Can you get NewEgg to give you "store credit" instead?

Really? Here in America (not sure where you are) this type of thing makes credit ratings drop which can influence a number of things in future. As well as one might be sued, etc. I dunno.

If Paypal charged me more than $100 in one transaction, I'd be suing *them*. I don't use them for more than I'm willing to lose.

Fair enough but I was talking about if someone made a rather large purchase, such as a nice computer, or a car. People buy all sorts online these days.

Credit cards just seem to have better fraud protection/theft reimbursement or protection. In my personal experience.

Oh, definitely, I would use a credit card rather than Paypal for anything substantial.

The biggest purchase I've made with Paypal, in fact, is a $72.00 annual membership in Second Life. :)

No I haven't, but I also don't use the Paypal for very much stuff - a few online donation sites, a few ebay auction buys, getting L$ here and paying my SL membership. I've always used a credit card for pretty much most online purchases simply because I know that I can easily refute an issue down the road. I use paypal more for things that I don't think I'll need to refute. Or for an ebay auction, if I go thru paypal I will change the funding source over to my credit card so that I can handle issues directly with the credit card company if needed.
