Does anyone know how to do this?

Hey, y'all.

This is a minor irritation, not a major issue. I just wondered if anyone knows how to fiddle the settings in the new viewers to get back an older function. Specifically, it used to be that you could attach an object to yourself by double clicking the item in your inventory - like adding hair, weapons, whatever. I just started using the new viewer (wanted to build over 1000 meters, so had to) after being a Nicholaz user for a good long while. I notice that now, when you double click on an attachment, it opens the 'properties' window for that object instead of just attaching it.

It's not like having to right click and select 'wear' is a huge burden, but old habits die hard. I've looked around in the debug settings and haven't found any likely candidates to switch this function around. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe that way of doing things is gone for good.

Anyone know any tweaks for this?

Thanks,
Mol

Use the Cool Viewer...it has a lot of those Nicholaz tweaks, but is actually being updated regularly as new client versions come out.

This is the Linux page...links to Windows and Mac versions are on the right.

I endorse that Cool Viewer suggestion. Boy Lane makes the Windows version.

There is a patch for this in the JIRA, supplied by Nicholaz:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1752
I've been wishing for this myself, so glad you made me look it up. :D

Wow, didn't really expect replies so quickly. From the JIRA page (thanks for the link), looks like other people also find it annoying.

I've looked at Cool Viewer in the past and always shied away from it because it appears that - unlike Nicholaz - is actually replaces files in your installation. Don't know why I should let that bug me, since it would be easy enough to reinstall the "official" viewer if I screwed something up. Guess it might be time to buck up, get brave, and see what it does. I've heard good things about it in the past, for sure.

Anyone know how to apply the patches that Nicholaz offers on the JIRA page?

Thanks, y'all.

I actually always hated it that a double-click would automatically 'wear' the item - I am bad about sometimes double clicking when I really mean to single click.

It actually drove me nuts when they changed the landmark double click action to actually teleport rather than just opening the landmark. Luckily, that one I can get around by keeping the popup that verifies I wish to TP, but that was not available when they first changed that double click action.

What I did was to install the given SL version twice - once into a directory that I put the Cool Viewer into and then again into a directory where I could run the actual SL version if I wanted to.

nicholaz has updated for the current patch, but from what I can tell still uses the config setup from the 1.18 viewer

I haven't tested the patch yet, but Nicholaz usually writes things you can just drop into the SL folder. It is a rather old JIRA entry so I'm not sure if this patch will work with current viewers or not.

Am in the middle of a massive system scanning and cleaning now, so can't test it today. If you aren't in a hurry, I will test it soon and let you know (or you can test it and let me know)!

Good thought, Malia.

I tested the patch, and assuming that the only thing I needed to do was to drop it into the program folder... it didn't seem to do anything at all. So, back to the drawing board, most likely in the direction of the Cool Viewer.

Thanks anyway!
