I've picked up some "freebie" mens skins, full perm, and I have no idea what to make of these. Full perm sets off red flags right away, but this is odd. The creator is listed as Ronin Darkholme. I can find no references to skins made by him anywhere, except for these freebies. His profile is almost completely blank; no picks or groups or anything to indicate that he might have a store. My guess then is that somehow the creator name has been changed and these skins are actually made by someone else. I've attached links to images in case anyone recognises these skins. Anyone got a clue here? http://freeformen.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/roninskin1.jpghttp://freeformen.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/roninskin2.jpg

Karl.....that looks very much like the full perm freebie men's skin that I have had since I began SL. I had picked it up in a freebies box of goodies as a noob.....and it was called "Photorealistic Steve Skin"..... and if that's the same one. It's been around forever and because it's full perm....well then anyone can make a minute adjustment to it and call it their own and pass it on. *shrug* It doesn't look like the best skin out there anyway so if indeed it's been stolen somewhere down the line.....chances are the creator has since come up with a way better design to sell.

I have a copy of the Photorealistic Steve skin and compared them closely, and its not the same. Also to mention, this mysterious Ronin skin I have no less than 18 variants, in 3 shades and 6 beard styles. Most freebies I've encountered are in one style only.

I think the response you got at SLU is right.. looks like X2.
I have an X2 set and the chest especially is dead ringer.

Okay I went to X2 and picked up every demo they have, and none of them looks like any of these Ronin skins. The X2 has much better-defined muscle, particularly on the legs, ass and back which are fairly flat on the Ronin skins. The pattern of shading on shoulderblades and abs is different. The body hair is heavier and darker on the X2, and a different pattern. The facial hair options do not match. The faces are very different, in particular the mouth and eyebrows, giving a completely different look. I have posted images and made comparisons here: http://freeformen.wordpress.com/ronin-skins/The only possibility I can think of, if yours matches, is that maybe X2 did an old skin which is now discontinued?

Perhaps, but it would still be bad business sense to put out a freebie full perm. A copy and modify, maybe, but a freebie would just loose them money, even on a mediocre skin. Full perm is usually done by mistake.

This is a link to who was finally determined to have made the skins in question in the OP. http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/content-creation/13643-stolen-skins.html Holy crap.. somehow the whole page was loaded below from the blog linked including the offensive picture. Sorry, folks. It was not like that before. I think only people with Srife's greasemonkey code saw it that way though. hehe removed! Main idea without the photographic evidence: From: someone So, over the last few months I've had a several people ask me about my male skin.. that they got for free from some freebie pack somewhere. Since my skins have been ripped on numerous occasions in the past, I wasn't terribly surprised to hear about this particular free skin. I was somewhat annoyed at first, but that has passed and faded into more of an amusement. Someone informed me that he found it at {snip}. In fact, I never even bothered to track down this skin, until now! So, I think it's safe to assume I'm not bent out of shape. Part of the reason is that in this case, the skin is still tagged with "Nora", and even suggests visiting "Nora"! Plus, it's free. However, it does state that the creator donated it to the community, when that is not factual. What can I do though? Be upset that I'm getting advertising at a massively busy freebie haven? No, that wouldn't be the right way to handle this. I'm going to continue to be polite to anyone who approaches me about this skin, if at all possible. So, uh thanks whoever stole my skin for the advertisement! I am mildly irritated about one of the chick skins using one of my very old head textures though. Can't win 'em all, right?

I've seen that skin too, (though not under the name Nora, I think it was Malak or something like that) and it's similar but not identical to the ones I've found. The body hair pattern is identical. The eyebrows are identical. The skin tone itself doesn't match, nor do the eyelids and lips. Mine don't have the tattoo. Nora Skin - http://freeformen.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/noraskin.jpgMystery skin - http://freeformen.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/mysteryskin.jpgDon't forget that most freebie skins are only in single form, there isn't a whole range. With the ones I've picked up, there's 18 different skins in 3 skin tones and 6 beard styles. And none of them have tattoos. So... they're not the same but they're clearly related somehow. The mystery deepens.

Chances are, it's a ripped off Dante skin by Lost Thereian of Naughty Designs. Dante comes in several different tones and facial hair options, and the chest hair looks similar.

Naughty was one of the first suggestions made to me, and the first I ruled out. The Nora one is closer; close enough that I've decided to send a copy to the creator for her to take a look at. I called in her store and picked up some demos but none matched exactly, although there's a similarity there.

After I saw this post a while back, I went to Naughty Island, as the skins that Karl posted pics of *did* look familiar (I have several Dante skins). On closer inspection, unless they're ripped Dante's that have had more work done on them, they don't look like that particular skin to me.

any one with any sense are going to alter stolen skins, before uploading again, so a stolen skin isn't ever going to match the original.
