Second Life: System unable to transfer inventory.
and
You decline from SLName2Key Hotshot.

The thing is, I never tried to give anyone anything when this happened and I did not see the dialog box come up when I was supposed to have declined. Nothing in trash and nothing NEW in RECENT tab in inventory.

I did a search on this SLName2Key Hotshot ID and it shows a webiste to goto. I scanned the websote with a online tool and there is nothing there on that site. Just an image that says, Coming Soon.

Does anyone know anything about this or have expereinced this?

thanks in advance!

Thanks for answering to fast.

And yes... I think that's what was trying to happen.. although I was not trying to do that or anything like that.

I don't think this has anything to do with that ATM..

Let's say... someone wasn't being nice. And thus I think this is thier doings.

thank you for responding nonetheless

Okay, what does this mean? Who's the "someone"?

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

One instance where you get that message is when you transfer something that's located in the Library rather than your own personal inventory.

In the past the quoted message showed up for the person trying to drop something from the Library directly onto someone else (and the transfer wouldn't go through).

Currently it's the receiver who gets that message, the sender doesn't see any error and the transfer does go through (other than the non-sensical message the receiver gets).

Thank you Kitty for that information.. How ever...

this is to Solomon Devoix also...

Lets just say that someone got upset when I muted them and they rezed a box, followed me, put the rezed box ON me, ect... then these messages started showing up. They are gone now and only happened that day SO FAR.

Thanks for responding

If you muted him you will auto decline any inventory from him as well. I think that is what was going on.

I recall reports that system messages could be generated by packet injection from a special* client. If that has anything to do with these messages, however, it's not obvious what purpose would be served by the in-world follower box, or whatever it was.

I'm also not 100% confident about those reports of packet-injected messages. I remember reading about them briefly, but it wasn't like there was a sudden pandemic of them, and I haven't heard anything recently. So maybe it got patched, or never actually happened, or the grueling tedium of making it happen outweighed the fairly paltry lulz.

*Yeah, I do kinda mean short-bus "special".

You are receiving an item that has an invalid type. The old behavior, prior to 1.19 or so, would be the viewer crashing. The auto-decline was LL's 'fix.'

The reason that bot is sending you something expecting you to auto-decline is either to get your location (it's in the IM (decline inventory is an IM)) or they don't know that you're supposed to use the people directory for name2key.

Qie, it is indeed hard to believe all the crazy stuff you could do with a custom client all these years :P Things are being fixed steadily, most of the scary things I once knew are fixed, though things definitely still need work :P

You can't really have a box (prim) on you unless you attach it yourself. The next best thing is a follower which is just a scripted prim with a sensor and force functions to keep it hovering around you. If the message was in blue text, you do have the person muted and are automatically rejecting their inventory offers. (^_^)y

Is there a single "Sideways" with a normal name? I'm yet to actually meet one. Buncha screwballs... I'm tellin' ya'. (o.o)

There are web sites that create a database of avatar names and their key numbers. As I recall, the databases are maintained by information from bots that gather avatar keys. I'm not familiar with LSL, but I think I remember reading that "SLName2Key" is a function that retrieves the key of a particular avatar from a database.

If a bot tried to give an item to another avatar, would that help the bot get the avatar's key?

Now that I think about it, you need the avatar's key to give inventory... I think it's basically this:

that sounds like the packet injection method to me.
someone getting your current location sounds about right.
thats the most common method used now since the auto-decline.
i built a test libsl client using that exploit and it worked excellent in terminating griefers before the forced update to the mandated client.
the exploit still works on those who are able to use the older clients (-channel "test";).

Ok, thank you all for your input. I will tell you what happened. A few of you KNOW what this is by just reading your replies and doing my own research.

1 - Person muted creates a box with script, default "Hello avatar" script.
1a - Person in question says: "Oh Kickme isnt going to be happy the next few days..."
1b - I assume they edited the script as it took them a bit before they touched me with the prim.
2 - Creator of prim pushes me with prim. I move. I get that message a few minutes later.
3 - I leave to avoid stupidity and ignorance from said person.
4 - I goto my friends land and about 30 seconds later, this SAME person shows up right outside the ban lines.
5 - Person is banned from SIM
6 - I did research on SLName2Key Hotshot and come to find out, it is a website that is blank (or seems to be blank) with some sort of Avatar KEY info puller.
7 - I WAS NOT trying to give ANYthing to this person, it has to be the other way around.
So.. I am going to assume here that this idiot was trying to "Steal" my items in my inventory. I DO have a name, but I will not give it at this time, due to that person was AR'd by me and a few others.

Thanks again everyone!

No one can steal items from your Inventory unless they login as you.

Seeing as how the system was designed to allow anyone to rez from anyone else's inventory up until only a few weeks ago, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions like that. :)

I do think the thread got a little confused though, I'm not sure what we're talking about anymore. But the answer to the original question, I can say with certainty, is that the sender just wanted to get the auto-decline response from you with your location. However things have changed recently and IM's from agents no longer carry location information (yay?)

Today, if you get this message, there are two possible explanations:

1. The person wanted to get your location but will be sorely disappointed, or
2. The person was actually trying to crash your viewer, offering an unsupported item type (and will be disappointed if you use a 1.20 viewer)

Of course I'm not saying there's no other way to get your location... never say never, especially considering the system is only now being redesigned to not work that way anymore :)
