Trouble with clothes not attaching - really need help!

I am calling on the think tank to help me with this problem. I guess normally it wouldn't be such a big problem if I didn't rely on quick changing so much in the role I have taken in SL. I am a SL model and do runway. The problem started a couple of months ago when I couldn't get skirts to attach or the wrong skirt attached or kept disappearing. After going into appearance many, many times and baking like mad, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. One day I noticed a small sign near my thigh, some writing (showing my name) which hovered there inches off my skin. Nothing happens when I click on it and it isn't there all the time. Like it isn't an object because it doesn't highlight when I right click on it.

Now I find that much of the time when I right click on my quick change clothes folders, the drop down box won't include "Add to outfit", "Take of items" and "Replace outfit". It stops at delete. This means that during runway, I just don't have time to go into each folder and 'wear' the clothes individually. Basically if I don't sort this out there's no use in pursuing this role further.

I know from reading the forums that there is a problem with clothing and in particular, skirts. My strength definitely isn't in computers and I'm learning all the time and I just don't know what to do about this. For example, in a runway show today, whilst there was considerable lag and everyone had trouble with hair and outfits, I was the only one of 12 models who just couldn't attach the outfit and my hair wouldn't rezz. Only when I TP'd home could I eventually put on clothes. I'm doing everything to reduce lag in my preferences during shows and in terms of my computer, it is powerful and should definitely cope with the SL application. I have removed programs I never use and defrag regularly trying to get the best performance possible.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be so grateful to hear them but please try to pitch them for someone who is not the smartest tool in the shed when it comes to 'computer speak'. I really want to continue with runway but unless I can sort this out, don't see the point in practicing when I can't do what I'm meant to.....show off the clothes.

Hmmm. I'd guess the thing on your thigh could be hud that has become stuck to your butt. Yes, even huds can stick on your butt after teleporting around. Most people don't notice them because huds usually have a lot of transparent textures in their design. It could also be your AO. I would try right clicking yourself and 'detach all' and then re-attach everything you need.

As far as you not being able to change clothes while others can I would suggest you check how fast you connect to the internet.

Thanks Bree . I'll try that idea to remove the hud. My internet connection is broadband and I have a pretty fast dial up speed. Should be quick too because it costs so darn much

Is anyone experiencing or has experienced anything like this lately?

Oh and another freaky thing...my eyes keep disappearing. I keep poppin' them in and they keep poppin' out. I've never had so much trouble with clothes and appearance as I have with the last two upgrades.

This may be really basic, but how often do you clear your cache? I had trouble changing clothes the other night and clearing my cache and relogging solved the problem.

Seems like you have other stuff going on too, but it couldn't hurt.

The "my eyes look like they've been carved out of my head" look? ATI video card?

Pre 1.19.1 you'd fix it by unchecking it "Avatar Vertex Program" (Edit / Preferences, Adv Graphics tab), which I think partially turned into "Hardware Skinning" with Windlight (Edit / Preferences, Graphics tab... check Custom, uncheck Hardware Skinning).

It's been over a year since I've seen someone with that problem though, so I don't really know if it's fixable under Windlight .

Did you let your entire inventory fetch before you tried that?

If you clear cache and don't refetch your inventory (open it and just type something random in the search box and wait for it to stop saying 'Fetched xx items' at the top) you'll see nothing past Delete (or if the folder has nothing wearable in it).

Or if you can't wait for that, click on the arrow to open the folder, wait until you can see everything that's inside of it and then right-click on the folder and you should see all three options.

Thanks for your help everyone. I managed to photograph the writing, which this time was sitting around my lower leg. I noticed the writing shows the name of an agency I was modeling with on pose stands and my name. This appears to be stopping outfits from properly attaching. What is this? I've never come across this before. I right clicked on myself and detached huds and clothes and started again. It seems to appear when I clothes which include a skirt. Any suggestions?? I have been getting this... the first time I right-click on the folder, it doesn't have those options. Then I right-click again and usually the options pop up the second time round.
