I imagine this has been asked before but to find it here...yikes..lol

Anyway....from time to time I will delete someone from my list that I have made "friends" with. We know that being on someone's friend list allows them to see and track you. Well, when I delete someone from my friends list, what happens on their end? Do they get a notice saying I have removed them? Am I removed from their list automatically, and therefore they are not able to track me either?

I would assume not, but heck in SL, ya just never know..lol

Thanks!

Sounds like they have the "God mode" software developed by libsecondlife people.

Supposedly you can map anyone with it. I wasn't sure it was still functional.

They used to, but they don`t, as of the last time I checked.

I know the answer to this, but answering a question about a possible exploit seems like a very effective way to get banned. I would urge caution for anyone replying.

And if you are wondering, no, I don't care where anyone is, and I could care less if anyone maps me. I DO hear about a lot of resident disputes however.

Neither. It`s the only one that isn`t backwards.:)

I was mentoring and just got this question asked by a 2-week old. She wanted to get rid of a few "friends" and asked if they would be notified if she delete them.
I told her that if she deleted a friend, they wouldnt get notified of the deletion, and they wouldnt be able to see if she was online, or track her.
I offered to show her, and test it with her.
She added me as friend, saw me online and in her friends list. Then I deleted her card. She still could see if I was online, even after we both relogged.

I dont use any exploits or god modes..

Anybody who can tell me how it exactly works?

I used to believe that deleting a card was enough.

I could be wrong but it's my understanding that you would need to delete them from your friends list. If they are online they do get a notice that they've been deleted but if they are offline they do not. Your taken off their list when you delete them from yours and they should no longer be able to map you.

I believe that there is some confusion here as to what does what.

Being somone`s "friend" means that you can map them, can be notified when they come online or go offline, can grant modify rights, and a few other things, and you get some other handy nifty shortcuts for stuff you can do other ways anyway.

Having someone`s calling card means that you can tell if they are online or offline, but does not grant you the ability to be notified of changes.

You cannot be someone`s "friend" without having their calling card, but you can have their calling card without being their "friend".

You used to get notices when being unfriended. I got one, once. I also tested this a bit more reciently, and at that time, unfriending someone who was standing beside me did apparently not generate the message. This apparently changes. I do not know what the current behavior is.

I am only few weeks old. I have people's notecards and contact information if I want to contact them but I was under the impression their note cards disappeared but that not true because I have removed and added few friends.
None of friends that I removed except 2 even asked or talk to me about it. Most people don't seem to care if you did remove them. I haven't tried to track down friends remotely or had interest to do so just because it would be bad manners to just drop in without asking.
Although in Beta when I was playing I really tried to find this one friend who referred me never could find her.
Why would someone want to find a friend without asking first if they wanted company?
I wouldn't want to beam into private gathering of one my friends personally without being invited in first place.

Making friends is similar in effect to the old Calling Card system, you are Trading Cards. You may delete a persons card from your friends list, eliminating your ability to track them but this does NOT remove Your card from Thier list, and Yes, they Can still track you as long as your card sits in thier friends list.

That little glitch has always been a Part of the friends/Calling card system.
