I bought a Camp Master. Does it prevent bots from logging in? I want only real people using my camp master.

Why shouldn't they? If they can activate a camping bench or a dancepad or whatever "classic" camping device, why shouldn't they be able to touch a campmaster to log in?

I know of some campmasters where always the same ruth-like avas hang around. Are they bots? I definetly think so.

if the purpose of hosting a camping location is to drive up traffic ratings, it shouldn't matter if they are real live people or bots. you get wut you want, and they get wut they want. everyone is happy. :D

Then it doesn't make sense to have camp chairs or pads then does it? Drive up traffic or contribute to lag, which is more important to the land owner?
I still haven't figured out what the traffic numbers do for anything. I don't see any search that uses those numbers and sales at my places don't change with higher numbers. I personally don't look at traffic numbers when I do a search except to stay away from places with real high numbers, those places tend to be more laggy...

Search Places uses traffic to determine which is listed higher

The OP may be thinking that, to make camping worth the various downsides, it should at least benefit new players, not just newly-fledged bots. Just wondering: do bots have Payment Info on File? If not... maybe that would be an acceptable criterion for "happy campers." It would exclude some, but a lot of new Basic accounts have Payment Info on File.

Cos to appear in the list, on the front page ... most people don't scroll to find lower numbered places. Sad but true ... and when traffic goes it will be word of mouth or else paying a LOT of money to advertise - and we'll be up against corporations then anyway.

Exactly what I thought. I don't mind helping new accounts camp (even if it is killing me financially lol) - but some greedy &;(W&&£!!! running a script outside SL I could do some very painful things to given half a chance!

I agree with Cherry....

What we NEED to see is comething like bob perry made ... with questioned campers, BUT im gonna write a camping script with age limitations written in...after all does an AV thats6 months old STILL need to camp *grin*
Camping ...like money trees is part of the SL economy, its just that its over used and certainly over abused..... arguments that have been used again and again.
Its all good for LL... numbers ...WOOO WOOOO

Hey Jochen

I have a system that is bot unfriendly. The campmaster will allow bots to camp. With the campers I produce, you have to wear an object to register with the system. In my initial testing, I used a few bots to try to log into the system and couldn't.

Mind you, the testing was done with a bot that is commercially available inworld. I am sure there is someone out there with their own mods that can overcome this.

Peace

Check them out at:

or profile me for my locations inworld in the classifieds

Not if we have a search system that goes by relevance. Currently though I get visitors through classifieds which is a horrible system (pay for position, ugh, minimum charge please!). I use them because I can put in a full description, which hopefully means more people find it relevant and informative enough to capture their attention.

I find it sucks a bit the way it is, if LL wants to make money then charge a base rate for the listing and X words, then charge more for longer descriptions or something. But sort by relevance.

I'm sure whoever thought up the current classifieds system jizzed themselves when they thought about all the people throwing L$ at their listings to try and out-do each other, completely missing the point that the people USING search just want a list of relevant listings to come up :(

I make the camp master. The next version will have an option to stop bots if desired. It wasn't a priority on the first version as most users don't really care if they are bots or not. I'll be adding a few other powerful new features too. Lately I've been busy making my team combat game called Tank Siege. Once I get all the maps done for that, Camp Master V2.0 is top on my priority list.
