Check out the latest entry in the official blog. The July '07 Metrics are out. And in them are three new sections: Percentage of Client Crashes, Server FPS and Client FPS. The most interesting of the three, is the %Client Crashes. This figure is per day. The numbers suggest what we've all been complaining about all along: SL crashes a lot. Roughly, on average, between 20% and 25% of the Clients crash daily. That's 1/5 to 1/4 of all currently logged in users. These numbers just seem like they're way, way, way too high. Can anybody else verify or disprove my assumption on this? One thing though, I have to hand it to LL for having the guts for sharing these numbers with us. At least it lets us all know they know how bad it is. Now let's all hope they can (in the not too distant future) get those numbers down to the mid single digits.

I don't send crash reports, bug reports or abuse reports. Linden Lab will do what they wanna do. So what's the point?
I get more feedback throwing my keyboard across the room.

I think I need to qualify that statement. I don't think they are too high for SL's crash rate. I agree with you Elex. The numbers are probably higher than that. What I was trying to say is the numbers seem too high when compared to the crash rate of any other online service - WoW, Steam, etc.

From: 2k Suisei ... So what's the point? I get more feedback throwing my keyboard across the room. The point is: They *are* starting to give us some feedback finally ( and you can stop buying new keyboards ), and the numbers they did give us, are terrible for an online service. I know we all knew that already. I'm trying to say that LL is finally validating one of our suspicions.

I get more feedback throwing my keyboard across the room. I never file crash reports either, so the actual crash rate certainly is higher than reported - because it doesn't report mine! But please, do file Abuse Reports, filled out completely. They build a rap sheet. And otherwise, how are the Lindens going to know they have a bad actor on their hands?

They can tell you crashed without a crash report - abnormal disconnections from the server. The stats in fact list crash percentages, and crash report percentages. The crash reports are low, something like 7%, but the crashes are high, as already reported in this thread.
They also differentiate some different kinds of crashes, i.e. client crashes, where you abnormally vanish from the server, or server crashes, where the server dies and you're left hanging.
You can look at the google spreadsheet online, the different stats are in there.

looking at the crashing situation, Just loggin into SL qualifies as gambling... at least for the premium accounts You have to pay Crashing or not depends on your luck You win when you don't crash.

I probably skew this metric… I crash so damn much!
The people I hang out with don’t crash nearly as often…

From: Har Fairweather I never file crash reports either, so the actual crash rate certainly is higher than reported - because it doesn't report mine! Crashes will probably be "overreported": if you have 1000 people who don't crash, and 200 who crash 5 times during a given day, you'd end up with a crash session rate of "1 in 2" rather than the actual "1 in 6' people that crash regularly.
