Ok, I know there's no real privacy in SL so I'm not here to debate that issue.

I have a question relating to group owned mainland. I have my land owned by a group which, of course, shows the group name. It is not set for search on the land Options tab. I also have the group set to not show up in my profile or in search.

So today I get a message from someone identifying himself as my "neighbor" (all but one parcel surrounding me is for sale and the one parcel that isn't has been owned by the same people forever so I doubt that's his land). He was supposedly warning me about another "neighbor" who IM'd *HIM* complaining that I did not allow fly on my land. I had fly off for a brief time but reconsidered and turned it back on. It has been on for quite awhile.

I find it interesting that the complaining neighbor did not IM me himself, but that aside, I asked the person who did IM me how he knew I owned the land as it is group owned and not in search. He said by the button next to the "Owner" (which in my case says "Group Owned";) on the first land tab. Sure enough, I clicked it and it listed all the members of my group. I have never noticed that before.

Is there any way to de-activate that? Now I want to go test that out on other group-owned land. Learn something new everyday.

This person who IM'd me went on to say he had come into my home while I wasn't there. Okkkaaayyyy....wondering why he felt the need to tell me that.

And yes, I know...there is no privacy on SL. :p

Are you the one that created the group? If so, I don't think there's any way to hide that.. Anybody will be able to see the group that owns the land and who created that group. Also, any non-deeded prims on that land will show their owner. At least with the Emerald viewer, you also see the previous owner of prims, though I'm not sure how accurate that is.

People need to have a way of seeing who owns a property, in order to contact the owner, AR problem content, etc.

BTW property ownership in RL is public record too!

Very true. I have been frustrated on more than one occasion by not knowing who the owner of a property was and never noticed that little blue info button. :o Would have saved a big headache with one situation.

Well, new info learned. Thanks everyone. :)

(Although I do think the IM I got from my "neighbor" was a bit odd. I went to ground level and discovered that both he and the person he said complained to him are both owners of parcels for sale.)
