Hello,
Why are all the avatars in SL so young & beautiful (like me)? Are there no 'mature' people out there. Being only 23 I have no probs, but what if my grandma wanted to join ? ..smiles
Just a thought

wrinkles

hi interesting thought....i am in my 40's and although i may be considered old to the younger generation, i really feel you are as young as you want to be seen. For me SL is about portraying yourself as perhaps you once were, or like to have been, given the choice.
Sure I dress according to venue and visit the oldies sites, but i probably look in-keeping with those residents. I am sure there are avi's about that portray age. For your grandma SL is about self expression. Let her be like she was in her youth, I expect she remembers that with affection. dog |

With the amount of botox available in SL it's hardly surprising there are no wrinklies!

My av is very old and wrinkly, looks about 70. I know of 2 other people who have Av's in their 60's, so not everyone in SL looks like they fell out of vogue or a slutty porn movie.

You can add wrinkles with the sliders and I think Brazen Shapes has older female avatarot so your grandma can be as old or young as she feels. I'd also recommend Rhetrology for clothes though they are not cheap. They have clothes your grandmother might enjoy. I'm not sure an older lady wants to run around in close to her altogether or that she'll find torn jeans appealing. The generation before mine had standards of grooming that are pristine and if you go one generation further back (I recently lost a grandmother who was a member of the Lost Generation) good grooming was an absolute must. I remember being positively shocked when visiting my grandmther's complex and seeing all the people of her generation in neat pants suits, dresses, business casual whatever, and not a pair of sweats or a "house dress" in sight.

There's a place, I can't recall the name right now, but they sell older female avatars. Sadly, they all look butch. EDIT: Saw the name above....Brazen. _____________________

I won't comment on the "sadly" but the avatars at Brazen Women only look "butch" because that look is part of what Beebo specializes in. However you can buy her aged Classic Lines skins, put one on your avatar, and dress them however you "butch" or "not butch" you want. _____________________

Age means nothing here. I love all the retro fashions in SL - the older generation knew how to dress and they had style and glamour. _____________________

Ooooh, before that gets misconstrued...I meant that it's sad that they all look butch because by showing a more female looking version as well, they could probably sell more. Visual aids are SO effective. _____________________

Visual aids are SO effective. Okay, I understand you now, and it's a fair point; thanks for clarifying. ![]() On the other hand, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The picture Beebo has up with the skins of the woman in the most aged skin, with white hair, wearing a sarong, is possibly the most beautiful avatar I have ever seen in SL, and when I first saw it I actually IM'd Beebo just to tell her so. ![]() _____________________

I actually someone wearing the skin the other day, with the short white hair and glasses. I didn't get the "butch" impression, as she was wearing a beautiful gown at the time - just got the impression of a very classy, older business woman.
If I ever decide to age (ha!), that will be the look I'll take on ![]() _____________________

Um, sorry, but I thought this thread was about an ENTIRELY different topic...
![]() But in response, yes, I have seen some older avatars; wish there were more! There's a skin store..called...Natural Skin or something, where I saw lots of "mature" skins for guys. I have not seen that many for women, other than at Brazen Women. ![]() _____________________

I'm trying to put together a wizard avatar just because I'm surprised there are not more wizards or sages or mad scientists running around. I found a great "old man" skin in a an oriental oriented (?!) store. It looks great. But I'm taking my time. I don't want to go the clichéd Gandalf route.
Of course it's facile for me to be an aged avatar when in 15 seconds I can be young again, or a beagle or anything else. We gotta work on this feature in real life. |

My alt wears the Classic Lines II skin - a sort of 40ish look - it's very, very subtle on her shape but just looks fabulous. (Uh, in my opinion. I am a little vain about my alt right now.) _____________________

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut. |

All the wizards I know wear flannel shirts and blue jeans, or maybe a ratty old bathrobe. The trick is getting the hair right. |
