Okay folks - I searched the threads for this and it has been mentioned in passing over the last year or so, but I had no idea how awesome the Cologne Cathedral is until I stumbled upon it this evening!

I had to turn my draw distance almost all the way up to take these pictures. This place is massive! The pictures do not do it justice.

The address is Dom zu Koeln (7, 185, 33). Get some herbal tea for yourself while it rezzes. It's worth the wait.

So are there any more places like this? The Leaning Tower of Pisa perhaps? The Topless Towers of Elysium?

Er.. Is that open to the public?

I think I read something about it, last year maybe..

It's not the one that doesn't (or didn't) allow non-human avs, is it?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Sorry for the huge pictures. I did scale them down I thought. Incidently, I wonder why the Insert Image icon in post the composer makes a url bracket. That doesn't work. It's really img /img in brackets.

I remember something about that now, but I don't know if it's this one. There wasn't a soul around when I went a few moments ago. I won't support them if they are "exclusive."

Yep. And people with wings. Hats too, I think. It was about a year ago and I have no idea if those rules are still in place.

Bit of a turn off for me, rules like that. It's their land, though.

I saw that when the controversy was brewing, but kept my distance from the place and used cam-fu to check it out. It's impressive, but their rules kept me at bay.

Honestly, I was way more impressed with the 'Old Queen's Campus" build of Ceera's.

I couldn't resist and had a look just now... I didn't see anything that pointed to any kind of exclusive policy.

BTW, when you enter the real Cologne Cathedral wearing a hat, you are going to be asked to take it off, and ladies are going to be asked to keep their arms covered. Maybe if there are such rules in place they are just striving for verisimilitude. :-)

I thought that was the Dresden art gallery?

Ah yes. I avoided visiting that build, because of their exclusion of Furries... Thank you for sharing pics of it, as I never would have seen it, otherwise.

The recreation of the Sistene Chapel interior at the Vassar sim is more impressive, in my opinion. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Vassar/200/90/2

There's also a jaw-dropping re-creation of the "Karinmaru", the first steam/sail warship in Japan. It is a stunning three-masted tall ship, with full rigging, and can be found at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Nagasaki%20BAKUMATSU/131/14/22

Referring to Marianne's kind comment, the "Old Queens" campus she mentioned is one of four sims I am building for Rutgers University, and is the "RUCE 2" sim. It takes up the whole sim, and is a detailed re-creation of their founding campus, including 5 buildings that are on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is at http://slurl.com/secondlife/RUCE%202/128/128/30

Wow, that is an incredible build, Weston. Thanks.

Heh, I was amused to see a pink flamingo right outside the cathedral:

Nope, Dresden doesn't seem to have any rules like that. They used to have big signs out in front of the cathedral. Maybe they've relaxed their policies -- or like so many other builds from the same timeframe, maybe they gave up on it.

Holy plumb bobs, Ceera! I was thinking of applying for a journeyman position at Fox and Ground, but after seeing that I'm too embarrassed. You are WAY out of my league. Beautiful.

Thank you, Lindal, though you still may want to talk to me about that application. I could use a few more good people, and I am perfectly willing to teach apprentices, to improve their skills.

I don't want to haijack the OP's thread with more pics of Old Queens, so I'll just note that by the end of this weekend, I should have a selection of pics in the Forum's Gallery section, for that build.

I would like to add that the OP's first pic of that cathedral build actually had me thinking at first that it was a RL photo, until I scrolled down enough to see the SL trees and terrain. It's unquestionably a nice piece of work, done by people with easy access to the original site for reference pics, blueprints, and the like.

It's a pity that they were so closed-minded when they opened the build, about who they would allow to set foot within it. I prefer the approach that the Vassar sim's Sistene Chapel build uses. On entry, you have to sign off on a conduct agreement, and they have a means of readily ejecting those who cause trouble or are disrespectful of that sacred site. But anyone can visit and appreciate it.

Zombies should be OK, given the whole Jesus rising from his crypt thing.

I used to live in Cologne and for the sake of authenticity I'd like to see more Kölsch bars scattered around.....the otherwise stunning cathedral just looks so lonely without them.

If u like this kind of thing be sure to see "Monastery of Felix Meritis" in Lil Burn Valley 179, 15, 74; not as big but very impressive in my opinion. Really done well and very calming.

This cathedral must be where they do the furry Sacrifices.
