I just downloaded the latest version and it runs fine. Not trying to rub it in, but perhaps you might want to try again.

If only there was a regular page you could download it from...

You don't ever want to turn your firewall off for *anything* btw. If something doesn't work, configure it to make it work but don't turn it all off. Or in this case, just don't use the auto-updater since it's always had its problems. Downloading from the site is hardly an inconvenience.

OMG? Some one actually scoffing at LL fixing bugs in a Beta program. But at any rate, bugs are getting fixed, why moan and complain? If you don't want to deal with steady patches use the Main Viewer or one of the open source viewers that are stable and only update when a manditory update is required.

Every so often I get that when I try to download an update....I usually just have to go to the web site and download from there. Not sure why it happens sometimes, and not others... but in the year I've been in SL I'd say I've got that glitch at least 4 times. Probably nothing to worry about. *shrug*

I got it to download btw

My point was the preposterous numbering of the patches that they are at.

The notice asking me if I'd like to file a crash report and then actually having another notice pop up telling me that I couldn't send a crash report.

hehe.....laughing again

The "hidden" Windlight DL link. Its not at the download page where the...umm.....downloads should be.
I checked the blog and saw that there was a new entry for Windlight and they had a link there...how convenient. ~rolls eyes~

DLed it and it works fine.

I'm getting so sick of this.

And for those of you that don't know me very well, I am usually the one that defends LL....not usually the one complaining

...maybe it was just one of those nights...or maybe I am finally getting fed up with this.

Much of this is completly arbatrary. Most likely you are looking at Release 1, Version 18, Patch 6, Build Number 76886
So in 4 years there have been about 77 thousand build/compile attempts associated with this project IF -- and that is a huge f'ing if -- it started at 1 AND it was numbered sequentially AND they were no numbers skipped AND it is in fact the build number. Personally I think it is the build number but I make no pretense to read any more into than that; it may as well be any arbatrary number.

I've found this to be the best way as well!

It prevents me from feeling like I'm doing that old dance, the "Hokey Pokey". 'You put your update in, you take your update out, you put your update in, and you shake it all about',,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. :)

Wasn't this recently changed and there was a detailed post explaining it? Yes, here it is! :) http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/10/second-life-1180-release-scheduled-for-wednesday-july-11th

From: Joshua Linden
Recently, we switched to having the second number (e.g. 1.17) denote an update which required a new viewer to go along with a server-side software update.

...

From: someone
The final field always represents a unique build number, which denotes internal changes only. Various iterations will be seen while a version is in beta (e.g. you might see 1.18.0.1, 1.18.0.2, 1.18.0.4 posted for the Beta Grid), but the official releases will only use the first three digits to have meaning (e.g. 1.18.0).

My point was the preposterous numbering of the patches that they are at.

It's not preposterous, it's pretty standard.

Builds may run several times a day. If they're using continuous building, they may run several dozen times a day or more. The modern practice of continuous integration calls for a build after every checkin (typically with a small window for groups of checkins within a few minutes of each other).

It's also entirely reasonable that the last number is being used in some other way - perhaps an encoded timestamp.

In any event, it's not a big deal.

I still don't see what you think is funny. Sorry, I'm not trying to flame, just wondering if I am missing someting here.
Do you think it is funny to you that:
A - There have been 18 feature addition updates.
B - There have been 6 bug fix releases since the last feature addition.
C - The build number is over 75K.

I take it you have never worked in a software production environment. None of those points seem remarkable to me, much less astonding enough to warrent so much as a smirk.
