Unwanted SL related Twitter messages

I keep getting messages in my Twitter page from "solojunkies" to the effect of
" AvatarFirst AvatarLast just won L$1 playing Player Bonus Orb with a score of 0 at the skybox in Second Life!"

I'm not following solojunkies in Twitter. I've blocked solojunkies in Twitter.

I'm a bit leery of going to the location in secondlife://Solo%20Junkies/192/192/310 for feat I'll start getting unwanted messages in Second Life in addition to unwanted messages in Twitter.

Why anyone not on the staff would want to to know about other people, unknown people, winning one Linden escapes me.

Is this a troll to get people to visit that location? I can't find that user on Twitter.

You might want to contact twitter support, and see if you can get some help blocking the account. I think they also have a way to report abusive accounts.

I'm not in marketing but I suspect that advising people they will be subject to an unending stream of the above is not the most effective sales pitch in the world.

As I said, I'm not following solojunkies, I have them blocked in Twitter.

The Solo Junkies group is operated by Second Life user Athena Sterling .

I've sent Athena Sterling an IM and as requested in her profile a notecard asking to not get Solo Junkie messages but received no response.


Thanks. They've certainly got a system for stopping spammers; I get notes about people following me and by the time I click on their link their twitter account has already been deleted.

I don't know if the solojunkies messages are misbehavior or a technical problem.

first off... i have answered your messages from IM, and notecard... ugh.

second, we use twitter as a out of game marketing and info portal. not spam. we are within the guidelines of the terms of service for both SL and Twitter.

thrid... as per our previous conversation via IM, i've already told you if you have tried to unsubscribe and block the twitter account and it is still sending you our stream, that you should try to contact twitter support and ask them why you are getting these.

i did not develop twitter, i'm just a user. i can not help you answer question on how there service works.

edit: as per twitter support, i've blocked you. this should stop you from seeing anything our stream posts. guess it only took a few minutes to actually google the details.

I always get cold shivers when someone responds to accusations of spam with something like "we're within the guidelines of the terms of service ...".

i suppose, however it has been annoying to hear his whines about getting our stream, when it would only happen if he initiated it. then to find this silly thread and people clamming abuse/spam... ugh.

we follow the rules. sure our stream is busy, very very busy, but those that follow it know this. the group post about the twitter stream also notes the fact of how busy it is. sure someone is winning something every minutes or less, some people may want to know this. thus the stream.

its also another tool and portfolio piece used in research, marketing and information management. all clearly within the terms of service of both sl and twitter.

If your goal REALLY is to only reach users who WANT to follow your stream, you might want to remove the word "Second Life" from your tweets. A lot of people will open a search/subscribe to posts that contain words like "Second Life", "secondlife" "#secondlife" etc. Since your tweets contain the words "Second Life", they are polluting that particular pool.

I don't think there's any objection to commercial posts, but the constant stream of automated "Global llShout" is kind of.. how can I put this.. irresponsible.

Imagine if there was a llShout command that would send a message to everyone in Second Life. That's really similar to what your stream is doing, it's messaging everyone who watches that term.

You could add a script that tweets once per day, something like "Want to follow the latest winners at our #SecondLife gaming site? follow us!"

That way you still get the benefit of the commercial announcement, WITHOUT egregiously polluting the search pools.

I apologize Sharcel. Your post really seemed a bit trollish especially since solojunkies does not show up in Twitter's search function.

But when you use that URL, they do. Looking at their followers, it looks to me like some kind of weird spamming account. A LOT of the followers are made-up names (random) and there is no good reason I can see for constantly spamming Twitter using the keywords "Second Life" with the results of in-world gambling machines.
