I have changed my avatar by mistgake, I liked the original I had but don't know how to fix it, I can't find it now--can anyone help me on how to get back to the original skins when first signing up for sl without having to make a brand new avatar. Thanks

Hi and welcome to SL and the forums! Look in your Inventory (bottom right of your screen) and down at the bottom the Library folder. In their under Body Parts (I believe) are all the default avatars. One of them should be the one you began with. Also, you can find free skins at NCI (just type that into the Search button under Places) and there are also a lot of free skins available for new avatars. I will drop a package with the info in it when I go in world. Edit: You type fast, Ralektra

Depends on what AV you chose when you first registered. they're all in your inventory under Library/Clothing. You should find the skin in one of the AV styles. Mind you there's a lot better in-world! Welcome to the madhouse.

There are a lot of skins for sale in Second Life, and finding the perfect one for me has become my white whale. They may be gorgeous, but they will change the entire look of my face, or the shape of my mouth or the shape of my eyes and I don't feel like me. I think I have been to every skin store in SL, and can't find one I really and truly want -- and its not that I'm so hard to please, its that I am a red head in SL and RL, and have freckles and want my avatar to sort of be the same.
So in short, good luck and welcome to Second LIfe!!!!

Welcome to Second Life and the forums. Be sure to check out Sarah Nerd's freebie paradise for some pretty nice free skins. That will get you going and give you a variety. It is not easy to find that certain look you want.. good luck.

Peg, I have a couple of Second Skins, and I can honestly say price is no object when it comes to what I want. But I can't get exactly what I want, and its not that the makers are not making it right, its that I want the totally impossible. So I can't blame them! LOL

No matter what there will be something that bugs me on any skin.

I know Colette! I found the perfect one...great shade, suitable for a redhead, freckles on the face AND chest, and the leg detail was perfect...but it gave me the saddest eyes...I felt depressed wearing it.

Lickme: Don't bother with your Library folders, they can be a little weird to use.
When you first register with SL, the avatar you choose is copied from your library to your Clothing folder. Look in Clothing for a folder named whatever avatar you chose (or, if you don't remember that, look for a folder that has everything ... skin, shape, clothes, etc.. ... in it.)
Then, right-click on that folder and choose "Replace outfit". *poof* you will change completely back into the original avatar you first were. .

So in short, good luck and welcome to Second LIfe!!!! I have a fair-skinned, redhead in RL and wanted my avatar to reflect that look. I was very lucky to happen on a freebie shape that I liked my first week in world and have worn it since (with some minor tweaking). My issue was trying to find a fair skin that wasn't Goth. I found mine that I LOVE at Gala skins by Gala Phoenix (I have one in the alabaster line). I'm not sure about freckles but I have seen some women with lovely fair-skin, freckled skins. If you do a search on the forums for "skins" there have been some threads that included places that offer skins for us reds. *smiles*

I've tried dozens of other makes and so far can't find one I like as much. Czari, I'd be interested to know what you think of her new Curio line if you've tried it. I waited impatiently for these to be released, after missing the introductory ones at the Skin Fair, but I've been rather disappointed with the faces and some shading details such as the neck and collar bones of these latest ones. I'm fussy about my av's collar bones! -- Aes

I won't mention any names in this, but I almost fainted the other night. As I mentioned before, I'm picky about my skins, I am a red head, and have freckles and wanted that, but I couldn't find one THAT SUITED ME...yes, there are some out there, but I am fussy about my skin. I have something particular in mind, and just anything wont' suffice. So right now, I am wearing a bit if a tanned one, which I usually don't do, but didn't want to be fish belly white all summer....anyway....
Last week I got an update from a skin shop I had visited and when I went to check out their new items, the store owner happened to be there. He followed me around which really wasn't all that annoying, but was a bit heavy handed, so I thought I would quiz him about a custom job. I asked, "Do you eve do custom jobs?" He replied by asking me how much I would spend for a custom skin. This was puzzling...if I said 20K would it have been 20K, if I had said 50K would it have been 50K? He states that he's the best in SL, and that he would put in a weeks worth work at 25 dollars an hour, and his skins were 1000 USD.
I laughed.

I purchased a GALA skin my first week in SL and 1 year later I still use it. I am happy with the tan because I am tan in rl, very tan.. And I love the little veins that are in the skin.. It is the detail I love. Only issue, is the pubic hair.. I like it a bit more fuller, but.. whatever, right not like I go around with that part exposed. (much)
