Tired of searching, sorry... Is SL hanging me up or what? I have some jeans and a grayed out shirt that I cannot remove, no mater what I try. Switcing avvy, etc. Debug to default, etc. Any help?

First hit CTRL ALT D to get the debug menus. Go to ADVANCED > CHARACTER > REBAKE textures. There's also a few other advanced avie options in there. You may want to clear your cache first.

I had kind of a weird problem once a few months ago. I had temporarily put on a different av - a kind of ghostly shadowy thing, with a pitch-black skin and lots of black-smoke particles. I was flying around and tried crossing a sim boundary, and got stuck flying in one direction (hey, it happens). While stuck this way, I tried to change back into my normal avatar. It didn't happen, of course. Eventually I logged off. When I logged back on, I was back in my normal av - so apparently the server "got" my message. Problem was, my arms and my face were still pitch-black, even though I was wearing my normal skin. I got a new copy of the skin from the creator, and it still wouldn't change. After lots of playing around, I finally found out it was my shirt that was causing the problem. Any other shirt, or no shirt at all, and my skin would all be normal. But as soon as I put on the shirt in my "normal av" folder, my skin changed color. Something had happened while I was "stuck" and the server was receiving crossed signals, and it somehow got the textures mixed up. The matter resolved itself in a couple of days and everything was back to normal. I'm not saying any particular item of clothing or your skin might be messed up this way - but if it IS, then the problem may go away by itself in two or three days.

Have you tried clear cache, PLUS reboot your computer? The textures that show your clothes are "baked" onto your skin. This is something your own computer does. The baked textures are then uploaded from your computer to the Linden server, and from there downloaded to the others that see you. So, if something looks wrong on those textures, the problem is basically on your own computer. CTRL ALT R (rebake textures) was suggested, and this may help, since that forces your computer to bake the textures again. So - basically, in trying to fix it, first look at what you can do to make your computer run better. Get the latest driver for your graphics card, and perhaps try turning the graphics settings in SL down a bit. You may also want to clean out your computer a bit - defragment your disk (preferably with something better that Windows defragmentation - that is almost useless). And clean and defragment your registry. Make sure you know what you do though, don't mess it up The not uploading your baked textures correctly to SL servers can be caused by package loss, for instance because of network connection issues. I think most of us have a problem like this sometimes. A rebake under more optimal conditions can help. If you log in a next time you may find that the problem is gone, for instance because you have less package loss. Try rebake and changing clothes in an empty or nearly empty sim, after a clear cache. That saves your computer from having to download many other textures

This last 2 months has been rough one for me avatar wise. Often my clothes don't appear to have changed sometimes for long periods of time but they appear to others. Or my pants or items I put on don't show up. I think it's because my nvidea graphics card 6200 is no longer on recommend list and my memory is pretty low 768 ram I can't afford a upgrade, but I have a friend who is using 4400 and she has problems but not exactly the same. Or its lag issue because often it just takes really long time for things appearance clothing wise to change. Are you using lower memory or graphic card on your computer too?

Thanks much- to all of you who are helping! (Odd-- this forum site is taking forever to load, while 4 or 5 other tabs I have snap right in!) Okay- First, I hate it when Im having trouble with SL and the focus is placed on my system. I have 3 gigs of ram, a 2 gig cpu- an upgraded graphics card (Asus) with 256 mb memory, etc. etc. Normally my system has a decent frame rate (not awesome) and only bogs down when surrounded by a heavy load of prim-wearing users. Thanks for cache tip-- I did empty it (took a while to complete). Then restarted my system. I had tried the rebake, and other experients in the debug section. Most of the time on this problem, I have been solo in a sim. Finally got resuts when I loaded up a backed-up avvy that I had saved. I prefer to use the one I was in, but not for now. So- I must have clicked and tweaked too much- now, when I move, there is a blue bloom of particles, or layer cake, or blue cheese or something in thin flat sheets that erupts and follows me around like a mouse trail) (Guess I'll save that for another thread) Singin... sorry to talk about your computer, but 256 memory is not much to deal with SL's graphic requirements. And since the textures are baked on your computer, it is only logical to start trying to look there if it goes wrong About the blue thngs: try CTRL ALT SHIFT U

I'm like a mommy taking up for her baby-- silly me. OH YES-- Your are SPOT ON with the blue stuff folllown avvies (actually it was following my visitors). As I suspected, I had clicked on "show updates" on the Advanced menu. Here's a big hug!!

I have 256 memory card too not as much ram as you but I have been using ultra settings with certain things turned down or off...which sometimes in very busy places takes hours to load. My friend with absolute memory card can't even increase her graphic settings. Graphic cards do effect your experience. I was here in 2003 with 486 with low ram, matrox video card and boy you want to hear of rotten sl experience it was nightmare. Try dial up with sl if you want true nightmare experience.
