So as I explore SL I've come to the conclusion that I'd like to rent my own place for a while so I have a place to call home.. maybe collect a few things until I'm ready to do more.

However, I have not found an actual home, loft or skybox that I like that is for rent. I did find one that I REALLY like, but only find it for sale. Its the New York City Apartment Skybox: http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=335918]http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=335918

I found a few NY skyboxes that are similar, but don't have the multi-levels that this one has.

I would love to purchase this and set it up somewhere. Its 140 prims and is 20x27 meters in size.

I have been searching for land rentals but am not having much luck in search or in the classifieds.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good landlord that might allow me to set this skybox up and rent some land enough to add some stuff to the skybox as I wait to see if I want to take it to the next step eventually. (I assume at that time I can pack up my skybox and move it to my own land etc.)

I hope I'm posting this in the right area. I saw a few other such requests so hope I'm ok. I apologize if this is not appropriate.

Feel free to contact me about this directly if you like or are willing.

Thanks.

i have been hunting for rental space that allows both residential and commercial. hard hard hard to find. i found a place i liked, but after mulling it over and revisiting for a few days, i noticed that the renters were coming and going like hotcakes... meaning, changing hands. i asked no questions, but concluded that they are being scammed.

might i suggest you find the threads that list the local forum members who rent space, and see if they can fill your needs.

i decided not to rent, but to have my alt go premium and buy land. i just want to play, but my alt has this incessant need to host a store. :D it is done. found waterfront. YAY!

i hope my little story was helpful.

Hi, Zed. Welcome to SL. I'm not really sure where you can rent land. I'm not overly familiar with the rental sims as I own land on the mainland. However, some quick advice for you......depending on how much you want to put in your skyhouse, you'll want to look for AT LEAST a 1024 plot, which is 234 prims. Your skybox is very high in prims, so after putting that on a 1024 plot, you'll only have 94 left to use. Furniture itself will take up a big amount of that. Your best bet would actually be at least a 1536, and if it was me, I'd go for a 2048. But, then, I like to decorate so I need a lot of prims......lol. Good luck in your search and I hope you find what you're looking for. To aid you in that, do your research first and, like 3Ring said, check the thread on reputable land owners who rent land.

Hi Zed,

Several of the land dealers in world will rent the land on the mainland also. You can ask around for a recommendation or send me a PM here in the forums and I can recommend someone. I wont be in SL for awhile so be sure it's here.

As Sunni said, your biggest challenge is the number of prims in that skybox you like. I see many of my neighbors make this mistake. They plop down a beautiful prim heavy home and then realize they don't have enough prims left to do anything with it. About a week later they have a new home and their first home was money down the drain.

You'll need to make sure that skybox is really worth it and make sure you have plenty of prims to design it well.

Have fun!

Hi Zed!
I wanted to let you know that there is a sim that has the NY Sykboxes in the sim for rent. Dont know if you have visited the West Greenwich Village sim or not yet, (and I know there are some that try to compete with this one) but this sim has a combo of rental shops, brownstone apartments and also the NY Skyboxes that you can rent to live in. Just thought that might be something to consider :)

Yea, I got briefly excited when I found that place. They seem to have a different skybox available (only one floor with no rooftop) and it is so sloooow every time I stop there. Very cool place though!

For that many prims you really need a 1536 parcel or larger. You would have to really watch your prims with a 1536 but it could be done.
