A Stupid Inventory Question

OK, the inventory foofaraw has me thinking about tidying up... BUT!

Some time ago I could swear I had a load of stress with finding that I would lose an item if I threw away the box it came in. So much so that I have a folder called empty boxes, and in there is every package I ever bought. I'm not completely convinced this problem applies to all vendors and/or delivery systems but here's the thing: testing it rquires that I'm prepared to lose one of everything I've got, per vendor, to see if that's true!

So I won't be doing that.

Should "empty boxes" be a safe throwaway? Was my observation just some sort of twisted dream, or a transient bug in an earlier version?

What we REALLY need is a Linden doodad we can make our AVs stand in, which then grabs the inventory and does what Jack Nicholson was talking about doing to Gotham, in Batman...

I delete boxes almost immediately and don't think I've lost anything yet .. except sleep.

If the box is copy/mod enabled and still have a copy of the outfit/item I bought, I'll shove it into a backups prim AND a backups folder. If it's not, it gets deleted. Haven't noticed any loss because of this, but I have a rather large inventory... I really need to dump some transferable things onto my alt, I guess.

Yes, might be what's needed. Though I find alt management unspeakably tedious, for some peculiar reason special to me...

Perhaps a more useful fix would be a "wardrobe/school locker" prim-type. I was told the limits on how many objects you can leave inside a prim are quite low: would be a very cool thing for some Lindens to fix instead of crying over Windlight. Imagine leaving outfits, skins & shapes inside a kind of pop-up book - the animations could be so cool...

Implementing a wardrobe would be awesome.. Open it and see various clothes (Maybe just a static texture but still nice lol), and maybe have a mim-av model on the side, which previews clothes or attachments so you can see what it looks like, to choose.... yeah...

While this would be great... I'd just be grateful if they'd simply allow folders inside of prims.

a "mim-av" would actually be a mirror on the wardrobe door. Very very cool - but will it be done?

Items are in no way linked to the box they were delivered in.

Any no-copy item that I buy, as soon as I unpack it, the box gets deleted.

Any copyable item that I buy, the initial box gets moved into an "Archive" folder in my inventory, and any boxes that I rez in-world get deleted after unpacking them. The archived copy is the source for replacing the item if the unpacked copy gets damaged.
