If anyone could help me it would be great:)

I am a premium member and am paid up for the year with the $72.00 fee ( I think thats what it was anyway, close too it if I'm wrong).

I ended up buying land (8192) a while back, and am charged $40 a month tier for that land.

Now I sold that land, and I am on Covenant land where I pay the land owner directly and no longer have to pay Linden Labs the $40.

So, how do I cancel that? I go to downgrade acct and I see that all that has to do with it the basic monthly fee, (or yearly as I paid). So what do I do to cancel and just not get charged the $40 a month tier fee?

Thanks so much in advance for your help everyone:)

Hiya Blazin, There are no stupid questions (none I've seen anyways) however to answer your question, You can't cancel it thru your secondlife account because your not paying linden labs, You have to do it thru your landlord, I am not sure how so you will have to contact them.

Take care

I haven't done this myself, but I believe this should work:

Go to the Second Life homepage and log-in.

Click the "My Account" link.

On the right are a bunch of links. Under "Membership" is "Upgrade/Downgrade Account". You can use this to go back to Basic if you no longer want to pay for premium membership.

Under "Land" is "Land Use Fees". You can use this to update your tier level (reset tier payment to US$0 per month).

If you've done that and want to make double extra sure you won't get billed next month, give the billing department a call.

HTH.

Awww thanks so much guys, yea I was lost with that one!

Dnate, I went to that link and set it to 0 (zero) and then clicked on reset. So that should take care of me being billed the $40 a month from now on then? If so..yep, very easy haha! thank you thank you to both of you for your help! Much appreciated:)

Actually, as long as you don't use the land, you wouldn't be charged. But, yes, you should be set now.

This question is raised so often in the forums, but it is only because members do not read the TOS or the FAQ's

In the TOS it does clearly state that you will only be charged for x,y,z maximum amount of land in that billing month.

Regardless! of your Tier level, if you do not own any land in that billing month you will not be charged.

When one month has pasted the land fees for Tier Level will/should automatically revert to zero.

But quite simple, if you do not own the land, you are not charged for it, as long as you have entered your new monthly billing cycle from when you sold it.

The thing a lot of people don't grasp (and I got caught out myself!) is that if you sold your mainland just one day past your billing date, you will be charged tier for that whole month .. it can seem an age before you see that tier disappear!

The other thing someone mentioned was downgrading to basic which I don't think the OP was asking. If you pay the annual 72$ subscription there is really no benefit in reducing to basic till your renewal date. LL don't do refunds!

Yes, its worked for me to do it that way and I move my tier around a lot. If you don't buy anymore land, you should not be charged next month.

In the Account Summary part, your old tier will continue to show until that tier date has passed.

Good luck, and it was hard for me to figure out too.

I haven't found this to work for me. It is not automatic in my experience. LL doesn't know if you plan to buy land or not so you have to tell them. But I have only tiered down while still owning some land; maybe it is different if you go to 0. The way I thought it worked was that tier was something you owned at a certain level until you changed it and was only connected to the land you owned in that it had to equal that amount. Many times I own less land than my tier but its not automatically adjusted.

Anyone else have info on this? I realize that I may be under a misunderstanding.

You also have to remember that if your tier has been contributed to a group, then you will still be charged, regardless of whether that group has land or not....

When I deeded my 1024 to a group of two with my premium alt and donated my 512 tier from each to that group, LL automatically dropped my tier to zero after the next billing date.
I assume this would be the same for selling land.
I am pretty certain I've read elsewhere that LL automatically drop the tier level according to land owned after that next billing date.

As I already mentioned in my original post, residents do not read the TOS.

I have attached a copy from the Land Fee page, if there is anything anyone is unsure of, then please do not hesitate to forward an additional post.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Land Fees

The Land Use Fee is a monthly charge for the peak amount of land held during the previous 30 days, including actual parcels held and land tier donated to groups. See Land Pricing and Use Fees for examples.

Please choose below the ownership tier that best reflects the amount you want to be charged each month for land use fees. When you purchase land or add tier to a group in-world, you will be alerted if the new holdings move you into a higher tier requiring a greater monthly land use fee (if you purchase auction land be sure you read the auction FAQs regarding auction land purchases and tiering). If you choose not to move into the higher cost tier, simply do not complete the land purchase. If you release land holdings or donations and want to receive tier warnings at a new, lower level, you must tier-down using the radio buttons below. (You may remain at the higher tier level without penalty; tier fees are only charged for the total amount of land actually held within your billing cycle.) If you don't lower your tier and purchase more land, no warnings are sent, as you are still within the tier you allotted.

Dnali, you only need to tier down if you want a reminder if you were to purchase additional land. If you do not purchase additional land and keep for arguments sake your tier at a whole region, you will not be charged for this.

i don't know anything about land management, but if you are asking how to downgrade your membership and get some of your money back, you can't. meaning, you can downgrade, but you can't get a refund. and before you click that "downgrade to basic" button, please realize that you will be stuck in that "downgrade pending" mode clear until your year membership is expired. you can't reupgrade until then, which means you can't buy land again until then, etc.

just a thot, if that's wut you meant.

In a perfect world LL billing would work as thier own rules state. They probably do work as stated for most people. That said, I do know of cases where billing botched up and people continued to be charged land tier even though they owned no land. Better to err on the side of caution and go to my account and manually tier down.

Hi 3Ring, I don't believe the OP did mean this; this came up from someone else but an interesting anecdote to your point is someone this week did precisely this, came here for help, was suggested to contact LL and was successfully reinstated! .. <phew!> .. sorry, should have been a full stop or two in there ;)

Downgraded membership after 2 days
10-01-2007 18:39
Ok so I joined and got the quarterly billing(22.50)
I cancelled my account after only 2 days because I lagged so bad I thought I was gonna have a stroke from being frustrated.I love the idea of the game but I spend more time rebooting and filling out surveys for very little linden! I tried to camp but my computer crashed my whole internet system and I wasted 260 mins not knowing this.
My question is,Will I still have my premium benefits until the date I am paid up to?
If you can help I would appreciate it...Thanks TIFFANI TIMELESS

Yes

Not necessarily all of them, however. I did something very similar to this, though for a temporary purpose that ended up proving unnecessary.

As I remain in the "downgrade pending" interim, I find that I can do everything Premium-specific *but* buy land.

As for now, I figure I'll just wait it out and re-upgrade for a yearly re-bill. This way, I just need to keep in mind... pretty much all that is in this thread. ;)

Cheers,

--Amras Martynov

[EDIT]

By "buy land" I mean for a group which already has donated tier from someone else.
