I'm trying to come up with ideas to "kinda sorta" fence my house in, with a tree border. So I'm flying down a Linden Road to see what others have done (down the road so I can avoid banlines.) Egads, what an ugly world we live in.
Basically I see that virtually everyone is using mega prims for walls, floors, fences and such. I can't seem to get them to work. I got the folder from the freebie wall at NCI, but whenever I rez one, it comes out .5 x .5 x 100. I'm just wanting a 40x40x.5 or something like that. Or it's a massive box. Are they able to be resized somehow? Though there seem to be a bunch of different sizes in the folder, they don't come out different sizes, and if I try to change the size, it goes down to 10m, and I lose it in the air or something.

I have made once this (still love it, although I don't use it anymore): http://www.xs4all.nl/~morwen65/Images/Second%20Life/Wall.jpgBut you can also take a look around my house and see what I have down with hedges and bamboo fences (there is "pick" in my profile). Morwen.

I use mega prims a LOT in my home builds, the most important thing to remember is that mega prims act differently to normal prims. Even though it may say something like 40x40x10 its ACTUALY 40x40x40 and you only see a sliver of that actual prim. If you were to look at a map of an area that you own you can see where lines dont seem to match up very well. Becasue of this strange behavours, mega prims do not tend to resize, any attempt will result in the prim going down to maximum normal prim size of 10m. Thi doesnt mean that Mega prims are useless though, Certainly most can change thier type from cube to cylinder etc, they can be dimpled...patch cut... even have hole cut in them (even if it really ISNT a hole .. just LOOKS like a hole) In my opinion the most usefull mega prim is the 20x20x5, its its like having 4 regular prims and in most cases wont casue too much of a problem ....
what ever you do though ....dont rezz the big ones ....... as they can cover a whole sim

I have just taken up building - made a nice little Tea House - that right now I find impressive but I am sure the more I learn the more I will correct, and it looks rather more impressive from the front, but this was the shot I had available. - For instance this business of giant prims - I had no idea! So it could be used for floors and walls and comes in different sizes! Great - Can they be textured as desired? And where does one go to purchase or how can I make one? Since I thought the max was smaller than what I just read above.

I believe that you can make your own too for flat surfaces like a wall. If you have pictures and other things hung that are eating up your prims. Take a snap of it, down load it in to psp or whatever you use.. Then upload the thing into textures and slap it on a bare wall and there you go. It is posted in the forum somewhere the steps to actually do it.

Get the free pack (four folders of big prims) off SLX. It has more options, including the 20x20x.5 box, and the 40x40x.8.

Thanks, Cristalle! I will look into tonight. That piece by piece thing is eating my prim count! And Kira - great suggestion - never thought of it - thanks

From: Idunna DeCuir but whenever I rez one, it comes out .5 x .5 x 100. There are different sizes of megaprims - and they can't be resized. What you rezzed is sometimes called a "longprim" The most commonly used megaprims are the 20x20x.5 for walls, and the 32x32x40 which makes a good house foundation. Check to see if you have objects in inventory with those names, and try them.

Yes, thanks...the 20x20x0.5 was perfect. I got my folder from the freebie wall at NCI, I'll check SLex and see if it's any different.
Now the only problems with the walls is that they are just that...big old giant walls. I am not comfortable fencing myself in, but don't like seeing all the crap out there.

Don't forget you can mess with them further by using the PATH CUT and HOLLOW feature under the OBJECT tab. That really helps with customization for your plot. I have not tried the other features yet.

You live in a new sim at none of the cost!

Annabelle, can you explain a bit more clearly what you are describing? Are you saying to just take a pic of the "openess" and use that as a texture?
