I purchase a motorcycle yesterday. Is there anywhere in SL where I can actually ride it, roads etc ... or can I only use it on my own 512m piece of land?

Thanks.

there are lots of sims with roads. you need to go exploring til you find one... or hopefully, someone here will be able to name a few for you.

Thanks Ken & 3Ring, I will go looking around again tonight. Perhaps I just picked "private" roads previously. Cheers.

Lots of roads if you search the map, and I mean look at it, not enter 'roads' in search ;)
A track at Silver Island. There'a a town with a high street that goes out and around and back but can't remember the name just off hand. Built for motorcyclists and there are lots of towns with a few streets, the New York in Hawthorne and search for Downtown and Midnight City.
Yes! look at Midnight City :)

Or use the railroads....

I often went riding with my horse on the railraods! Of course you have then to be careful with trains *winks*

I don't think you can Rez on Linden Lab roads.. BUT.. if you can rez next to them you can ride on them. ( might be wrong but I think that's the case ). There is also a sim with a bikers cafe etc. but it's name escapes me.

Lil Sturgis is a sim with a biker bar/ cafe. A few shops too.

and a big capfire they all sit around, unfortunatly located right in the run off area of a corner. Popular for hapless biker (like me) to go piling in to them.

Remove all scripted objects too, and sculpted prim hair etc. You don't need lag in a place like this. The biggest problem i found is outrunning the rezz. You end up hitting a wall you can't see yet. You can alter the distance objects rezz at to help with this, but I've yet to try it.

Nice one Strontium! Sturgis was the circuit I was trying to name. Couple of interesting shops in the High Street. Got some nice jewelery there ;)

Speaking of motorcyles, I had fun building my own free Orange Country
Chopper in the Intel sim.

Just do a search (All) for Intel OCC....have fun!

If you want a longer drive than just Slurgis, you might try going to the old former noob welcome center at Waterhead. Nearby is a huge parking lot where you can rez your MC. and it directly connects to the SL road network. The person who talked me into getting into SL used to take me riding on his MC from there.

Just be careful to slow down on sim crossings or you can find that the road hasn't fully rezzed as you cross, and the wheels sink into it as the road rezzes around the MC, locking it into place... either that or the other fun one of the MC and you going in 2 different directions (usually it goes foward while you move to location 0,0,0).

Nepessing, and sims in the area all have connecting roads seemingly perfect for motorcycle riding. ;)

There are quite a few places to ride, just search biker and it will bring up places to ride and hangout. Hells bikers has a 2 sim ride, there are a few biker groups that have sims set up just for riding. Have fun ;)

For something really different, the Greenies sim is a great place to ride around on that kitchen floor. :^)

MyControl Raceway (search for it) has a fun track waaaaay up on a sky platform. There is also the "Vehicle Sandbox," but what used to be a complex and difficult but complete route around the landscape there has been broken and rendered unusable. It still has open plains and rolling hills for "dirt riding." And I'll say that riding a bike across a sim border is a lot better for me now than it was six months ago - I only get stuck/sinking about 15% of the time instead of 80% or so.

I've heard rumours of a steampunk biker gang in Caledon... mind the horses, those newfangled contraptions and the punks on 'em are bad to the bone...

For a huge $5L you can rez vehicles for 24hours at my roadside vehicle rezz platform :)
There is also a Linden vehicle sandbox and there are a few blocks of land beside the roads that have build turned on.

Now that catches the imagination! If you learn of a group name for this crowd or a place they hang out... :D

go to hog heaven.

it's a biker bar. it's on the sim directly west of carmine on heterocera (sorry, the name escapes me). it's in the northeast corner of that sim. they have a small bike track.

however, the bar is right at the Y-intersection of two roads on heterocera. get on the roads and ride. you can circle the entire sim via a number of routes. VERY extensive road system on that continent. even ride on the great wall of linden (or IN it if you're brave).

as has been said before ... just watch the sim crossings.
