Linking objects distance changed?

I'm sure I used to be able to link objects together up to 10 metres apart. Just tried it now and it keeps saying distance too far. The only way to get them to link is by bringing them to about 2 metres together. Am I going bonkers or has something changed ?

using Emerald Viewer btw if that makes a difference

Hi, Maxi. That simple 10m rule of thumb changed when Havok4 was rolled out, quite a while ago. The good news is that link distances can be up to 54m; the bad news is that knowing the maximum is rather complex. See: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linkability_Rules

Basically, whether or not you can link things depends greatly on the size of their bounding boxes relative to the link distance. It can get quite complicated. Small prims can end up with a max link distance of 2 meters.

Actually, small items had a much closer linking limit even before Havok 4. For example, a 0.5 M sphere had to be within about 3 M of another 0.5 M sphere to link the two of them together.

The bigger the item (up to 10 M max, and after that nothing changes), the further away it can be from something else you want to link it to.

The actual formulas, as mentioned, are complicated as all get out.
