Redmap warning? Are you getting this?

Redmap Warning!

You appear to have lost the connection to the current region.

You will probably find yourself being unable to move and the only resolution may be to relog.

I have been getting this message repeated over the last few days, in more than one region. Prior to this, I have NEVER seen this particular message before in SL. Is it something new? Has anyone else gotten this? I use the Nicholaz viewer, and this has only happened since I finally (reluctantly) gave up Old School in favor of Bleeding Edge. Has anyone found that to have anything to do with it?

I'd appreciate any feedback or advice - this is becoming a real pain.

Thanks!

Have you checked your internet connection? Sounds like that may be a possibility since you've said it's not exclusive to one sim. The only time this has happened to me is when my internet connection has been dropped or the sim crashes.

You'll get a message about the simulator going down, if the sim is crashing, in a regular viewer asking if you want to quit or continue - I assume something similar happens in that client? So! If that's happening the sim your on is crashing.

When my net kept going in and out the world would just seem to freeze. Though I could look around, I couldn't move and then after a few on the mini-map I'd see it all red.

I've gotten it off and on for a few weeks. Not sure what it means though, I just figured it was glitch......

The warning dialog is part of the Nicholaz patch set. In the regular clients, the minimap will turn a reddish color too, but you won't be told that it means you've lost your connection to the sim.

The error isn't new, but it does seem to come and go in waves (and it's one of those things that's not always on LL's end, so not everyone may see it at the same time).

The Nick viewer actually tells you that a redmap failure is happening, while the other clients don't warn you.

Ever had a situation where you suddenly stopped hearing everyone else, and you could only spin in place, but can't move? And when you look at the mini-map, it's red? That is a redmap failure, and it is a VERY common problem. Sometimes IM's continue to work for a while after you actually redmapped. What it means ia that a communications glitch caused you to lose your connection to LL's servers. the only cure is to log off and log back on again.

Nick's viewer warns you as soon as this happens, where with the others you could be standing stilll and chattering (to yourself) for several minutes before you realize no one is responding, and that you can't move.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Ah ha! I wondered if it might be something like that. I remember seeing actually red maps before when I would crash. And you are right, sometimes you wouldn't know it and keep talking, wondering why no one was answering you. I much prefer the immediate heads up (God bless Nicholaz once again!) so I can correct the problem immediately.

I was getting read to also load a copy of his verision of Windllight, but I wanted to make sure this viewer was stable first. It's that science theorum thing about only changing one variable at a time, or you can't trace your problem! But now I hear people are having problems with the newest Windlight, so perhaps I should wait?
