I cleared my cache and relogged and now my eyes are completely grey. When I go into the edit appearance it says the texture is missing. Anyone know how to fix this?

Update: I tried to make a new set of eyes and got the following message "Unable to save eyes to central asset store. This is a temporary failure. Please customize and save the wearable again in a few minutes. If this problem persists, please click on the 'Tools|Report Bug" pull down menu and provide details about your network setup."

Are you using the basic linden eyes? Or making your own or did you buy them? I've had that central asset error message before and it usually cleared up after a few minutes. People with missing image eyes or solid white or gray look really scary.

I've got the exact same thing since yesterday. It was an eyes I purchased for L$ 1 a very long time ago I think.

Ooh.. I just opened Appearance, used Save As to save a new copy, then took off the new copy, put the old copy back on, and deleted the new one. My eyes are fixed now o.o

This seems to be an ongoing issue with eye textures. I've given out replacement eyes to more than 20 customers. It seems to happen frequently after updates, but also happens at random.

I've never experienced this issue since most of the textures (skin and eyes) I wear on my avatar(s) are loaded client side.

This interests me. Can you explain what you do that is different than the normal way?

(I know my personal skin/clothes texture probs are more to do with a pitiful graphics card than loading problems, but I'll try anything at this point!)

This is fairly straightforward. I replace all the corresponding 24 bit color textures (head, upperbody, lowerbody, eyewhite) in the client character folder with my own.

Pros:

1. The client texture rebake is failsafe
2. No upload costs (excellent for previewing and photo shoots)
3. No asset loss (textures sit on my hard drive) due to server issues.
4. Retention of uncompressed image data
5. Works on all grids (main, beta, first look)

Cons:

1. Access to the raw textures (TGA files) is needed
2. Alt accounts are affected if logging in from the same computer
3. Virtually unsellable because permissions restrictions can't be applied

Thanks Namssor, that is a great tip! This will be a much better way for me to experiment. :)
