Okay... I was having this problem before the new viewer release, and it hasn't changed.

All of my skins are black. When I go to edit appearance they're just static. I've attempted to switch to seven different avatars and they're all just shadows. Sculpted prims show up fine, but skins are just black.

I've cleared my cache... that did not help.
I've completely wiped the game, deleted every registry entry, and reinstalled fresh... that helped for about 10 minutes, with the avatar I was wearing on login. As soon as I changed avatars, everything became black again.

So, WTF???

I'm not being offered many screen resolutions at all... best it offers is 1024x768 despite my video cards being able to support 1600x1280 or higher. Cards are not overheating or otherwise under any strain what so ever (2x EVGA 8800 GTS with latest drivers for my OS, not SLI bridged).

Current OS is Win7, on a DSL connection.

This is a common issue with dual monitors. SL should run on the primary.

Do your run dual monitors?

Try rebaking your characters textures: Ctrl Alt R

This has never done anything, and does nothing right now whatsoever.

SL acts the same regardless of the monitor it is on (currently on the primary monitor)... all of the avatars I attempt to use are still just black shadows.

How do I force SL to use higher resolutions than 1024x768???

New client rather sucks

This new client update is hopelessly screwed up. It does not acknowledge that I have a video card of any type, offering only a default low resolution option.

IMs no longer display in common chat (nor is there apparently an option to re-enable that).

It's support of secondary monitors seems to be utterly broken (never had this problem with earlier viewers, or even the one prior to this latest release until a week ago... 2 months *AFTER* I updated my video drivers).

Toggling to fullscreen drops the resolution down to 800x600 (what kind of stupid crap is this???) but it does at least then allow me to select resolutions up to 16**x whatever... which immediately drops back down to 1024x768 when I return to windowed mode and does not allow me to select alternate resolutions.
Whoever coded this viewer screwed up big time on this one.
