Can anyone tell me how to view IMs that have been capped when you don't have the send to email option turned on?

Sorry, but AFAIK, those IMs are just swallowed by the system and never delivered anywhere. (Hence the virtue of having IMs to Email.)

(And welcome to the Forums. Wish there could be a better result for you.)

I seem to remember that IM's to Email can get throttled.
It would probably require a high rate to trigger that.
Does anyone know for sure?

I haven't been aware of any throttling, and i get plenty of IMs by email.

I have a script in the store that IMs me when somebody arrives there, and I get all the IMs - usually multiple ones per email. It's the same when people send multiple IMs quickly - they arrive in one email per person.

Someone once explained to me that multiple IM's sent from a single source in rapid succsesion are batched together every 10 seconds and forwarded to email.

So if an Avatar or object sends you 5 IM's in 10 seconds all 5 messages should appear in the one email.

Not sure how true this is but seems consistent with my experience.

All of my IMs go to email....until they get capped inworld, and then I don't get them anymore in email.

I've started logging into ajaxlife on my lunch hour to clear things out.

That is true Porky. I saw it yesterday for the first time when one of my tenants shot me a fast succession of messages....they all came grouped in one email.

This is not my experience - I continue to receive IMs in email after they are capped in world, though I will not receive those same IMs in world once I log in.

To answer the OPs question, I don't believe there is any way to view capped IMs other than turning on IMs to email and receiving them that way. They are gone.

My experience is the sames as HoneyBears, once my IM's are capped in world they do not get forwarded to my email. Odd that you still get them

Yep, it is odd. Most of the IMs I get are from an object, rather than from people - those might possibly be handled differently, who knows. The IMs from the object come to email, and they can cap my IMs, and still come to email even after capping. I have not noticed other IMs not coming through to email after capping, but then, how would I know?

I'm with Madhu :p.

It's hard to know whether every last thing actually does make it to email, but I do definitely get emails past the point where IMs ("inworld inbox" would be more accurate I guess since it involves more than just IMs) cap in-world.

---

I'll try and remember to leave my alt offline and ask friends to send it some IMs along with inventory offers over the course of a week to see how much of it ends up in email, and throw in some group notices, IM conferences and scripted IMs for variety :).

When I log in I almost always get the "capped" message, and occasionally I get a proper IM or two along with a myriad of object-sent IMs. Most of the people-type emailed IMs that I've received are not given to me when I log in. From that, I assume one of two things:-

1. All the IMs are stored (and emails are sent) and the capping is on login; i.e. they are not all given to me when I log in.

2. The storage of them is capped, but they are all sent to me by email.

Either way, I'm with Madhu and Kitty on it.

I only know that my experience is correct, for me, because someone will tell me they IM'd and said "such and such" and I'll check, and it's not there in my email.

This is SL....YMMV.

If you still dont want your IMs to go to email, why not try to add in your profile to ask people to send you a notecard, yes it may go to your trash but along with that message in your profile you can say that you check your trash when you sign on.

I get unlimited IM's from objects sent to email, it was IM's from Av's that I dont receive to email once capped.

So I think maybe messages from objects are handled differently than messages from AV's. Messages from my objects are more like notification than IM's. When i went on holiday for a week my IM's from Avatars capped pretty quickly as I had none delivered to my email after the first day, yet there were hundreds of messages and notifications from objects over the whole 7 day period in my email.

Are offline IMs THAT common? (O.o) I'll get one or two a week at most and they're usually from someone saying "goodnight" just seconds after I log off. (o.o)

Maybe it's just a store thing. (^_^)y

This thread prompted me to stop the script from sending IMs when I'm offline - thank you OP :)

All I can say is that I don't recall anyone ever saying they've IMed me and I haven't received it because I was offline. When I go online, my IMs are capped and most of those from people are not delivered to me. But I don't get a huge number - just customer queries - several a day at most.

I have the stores, the tenants, and the various groups that are very active sending stuff and notices. I usually cap out about 2-3 hours before I get home. Not every day...but most days.

That is the answer. I have noticed that SL just seems somewhat random with things like group notices and IMs -- and almost everyone I talk to seems to have a slightly different experience with it.
