Luv, Luv, Luv Chrome. It is FASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST! But of course there is no use in having a browser if you can't see the forum correctly. I am going to keep poking and prodding and fumbling and hopefully someone will get it up and running?

Bump for the wonderfulness of this zippy new browser and so that I'll remember to check this thread again, as addons and a few teeny UI tweaks is all it needs in my mind.

Well they built thier own java script engine for the browser, in fact jscript is the main reason for the browser to begin with. Wonder how in the heck they got trademark on V8 thou??
I am sure a forum or two will pop up in the next couple of days on making add-ons for it. Now just in case anyone lives on Mars and has no idea what we are going on about; Google has created thier own browser named Chrome and just released it this afternoon. Don't think it will hurt IExplorer too much and FireFox should survive but I bet this will just about kill Opera. _____________________

It won't replace Opera until it's ported to Windows Mobile. Opera is the ONLY browser that works well on it.

No page zoom. Even IE has page zoom
And it can't run Google Lively. Got to have IE or FF to run Lively. ![]() _____________________

inside the Chrome TOS
"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services." That's right ..... using chrome means you give ownership of everything and anything you do with it to google, uploaded photo's, forum posts... anything. |

I figured someone would mention that.
"anything", hmm, does that include your passwords? I'm not seeing anything much there to lure an Opera fan away. No skins. No greasemonkey. Needs work. _____________________

All of your browsing history will be going to Google and their advertisers. They should be paying you for the information.
I suspect, as long as you use Chrome, you will never be able to disable Google Analytics, as you can do in Firefox (with the NoScript plug in) |

Also a big fan of chrome. Not sure if I can use it permanently until they start building flash/java/whatever else addins. Also, I'm really going to miss foxmarks so they need to get that going sharpish. I'm really hoping to see superior performance on google docs which I use extensively for SL record keeping. So far it looks like large spreadsheets are quite a bit faster.

These forums, using Chrome, have the "Quick Links" menu missing, it's weird... it's replaced with some other links, "Mark Forums Read" and "Open Buddy List." Since I typed subscriptions.php into the address bar manually it's easy to get back to them, but I wonder why it's like that.

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/150637/google_amends_chrome_license_agreement_after_objections.html
"Google said Wednesday it would dump one section of the end-user licensing agreement that gave the company "a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through" the new browser." That is the good news. The bad news is that even thou V8, Chrome & Webkit are released under a BSD license, there is no EASY was to create plugins, which seriously sucks. "Q. How can I develop extensions for Chromium like in Firefox? A. Chromium doesn't have an extension system yet. This is something we're interested in adding in a future version." It still may not be a problem for some of the devs here but a little bit above my head to go digging through that much code looking for sockets. Too much, as in hundreds of thousands (This is not a typo!!!!) of files in the build tarball. If this hasn't put some of you off and you are still curious, Google for Chromium NOT Chrome. _____________________

Fortunately clicking on user CP gives some of the function. Java problem maybe? Chrome needs the latest beta jre to run java correctly. _____________________

"Google Chrome for Linux is in development and a team of engineers is working hard to bring it to you as soon as possible." /me looks stern and drums fingers on desktop. If you're looking for a comparable experience, Konqueror, Midori, or Safari (Mac) will suffice, seeing as Chrome is based on Webkit (which was based on KHTML, which is the rendering engine for Konqueror). As regarding speedy browsers, I'd recommend Links (GUI or terminal) or Midori. But personally, I'm still a Firefox user, and will remain so until a browser offers the clean browsing of Firefox + AdBlock + NoScript. Seeing as the bulk of rendering pages tends to be Google Analytics tracking, ad revolvers, and Flash popups, things scale nicely with that combination. Edit: And re, security holes: Webkit on Windows (Safari) has been known for a few lovely ones, so I would expect that trend to continue until this offering is relatively stable. _____________________

LL is in some fashion causing Nuanti, Inc. to port Webkit to OpenGL for possible use in SL, so there is a tenuous link between Google Chrome and Second Life.
