okays, so I wanted to set up a you tube viewer TV on my land, purchased a nice one and rezzed, deeded to group...

Seems like it's funfctioning, can "hear" the video but no dice on the video actually showing up on screen. I can however, see the media in the content window in land properties...

I've set the land video to "movie" and of course I see the texture, but no dice on the TV.

Anyone have a suggestion?
Contacted the maker, he was there then he went offline..

and now Im offline and login failed messages..
/me is saying a bunch of choice words right now

I will wait and see now, considering the issues in SL right now, perhaps this is the prob.

If you see it on the media tab for your parcel, then the problem is the TV. If the TV uses the popular freeview script, I think you can just click on the screen, and press "video" on the menu that comes up.. Also, the texture on the viewing screen has to match the texture set in your parcel media, generally that is "default media texture" which you can find in the library. As a test, rez a fresh prim, apply that texture to one face, and see if you see the video..

Also, if you're on group deeded land, you need to also deed the TV to the group (if it is a scripted Freeview set) as it will actually read your parcel settings and automatically select the proper media texture for displaying the video.. it won't be able to do this for group deeded land unless it too is deeded.

YouTube video is different from regular streamed video. It has to be converted into an mpeg stream of some sort, so that Quicktime can render it. If you're getting sound but no image, and other video works for you, there may be an issue with the service that's converting the youtube content, maybe.

How are you selecting the stream? As Ghosty points out a standard youtube link won't work, you need to find the MP4 link for it.

I suggested to the owner (creator) that there should be a texture on back stating "back"

/me is 30 shades of red

I gotta give this guy credit, I would have been laughing at me.... He said it happens a lot so, I really do not feel that bad.

And maybe it will help someone else. ; )

Since YouTube starting serving up higher quality versions of their vids, it's actually possible to play (many) of the vids there directly in-world with no conversion. You just need a tricky script to feed YouTube the proper set of 'credentials'. AFAIK part of this setup is a web-based script that will grab these credentials - sort of random number that changes every few minutes for each video. Rather a slick setup when it works, but I haven't been able to manage it with my own scripts yet.

There are even some fancy set ups for sale that let you search YouTube from in-world and choose the vid you want from a thumbnailed list.

This must be why the Torley method won't work for more than a day or so at a time. I fiddled and fiddled with getting Youtube to work and it would play for a while then quit to a black screen. I finally gave up and am just using quicktime movies now, but the selection for the artsy fartsy stuff I like is meager. I'd really like to get youtube to work!
