You can go into preferences and poke around in there to turn logging off. I can't remember right now which button it is and I'm not in SL.

So basically as long as I don't log my IM's the info won't show up on my network? Or does it show regardless? I currently do capture all text while online to view later... but I am curious even if I don't use that function is it possible to read in real time the chats going on in world.... anyone know?

Chat is definitely not encrypted for transport. I'm not sure about IMs, but I'd guess they aren't either. Somebody who knows the client source would know for sure.

Hmm so basically there is currently no way to have encrypted IM's (encrypted externally on the network) with Second Life.. I wonder how some of the companies in world handle that...
