I am needing to sell my established business of three years with a substantial loyal group following along with some prime land in Zindra due to RL commitments.
The business has in the past been incredibly successful and attracted serious traffic and income but has now become somewhat neglected due to losing a great manager and myself having little time to promote it in the move to zindra.
I have no idea about how to go about this.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.

If you want to get a fair deal for it, you're going to have to go into a new line of business. You're no longer selling your merchandise that the business sells. Your new product is the business itself. You're going to need to actively promote it to prospective new owners. This is now your job in SL, is to sell that business.

That might not be easy with the fact that RL concerns are taking time away from you doing the same thing for your existing merchandise, but that's the way you sell a business.

Thanks R+R,
I am hoping someone may be able give me some pointers about how to value a business and also if it is possible to auction such a concern? Also if there are services that can advertise, market and assist in such a transaction.

the problem with SL as it is setup is this.
Unless I can go into your account and make sure you have transfered each and every item over to me (the buyer) and see for myself you have NO copies, I dont have a certainity Im buying a franchise instead of a one of a kind business? (we wont discuss saving stuff on alt accounts thats another deal)

Understand what im getting at?

Now of course im not going to be able to go root around in your inventory so therein lies the problem. How am i to be sure once ive "unburdened" you from your land and responsiblities you dont suddenly, in say a month or two, decide you want to continue selling or working it?
Now chances are good you won't, but, and its a big but, People scam all the time. This could be a costly mistake for the wrong person. (if its a scam which i dont think it is.)

I hope you see the problem.

maybe theres a way around it? I dont know. I've been offered this very situation a few times and i've turned it down for just this very reason. And yes. the person then went back into business inside of 6 months with the same merchandise I was offered as a one of a kind sale, therefore only strengthing my case (in my mind) that its a risky endevour.

Not attacking. Just pointing out a few things.

good luck.

I'm looking for Zindra land. I'd be willing to buy it for a fair price. I am not concerned about the business though.

I am not selling land here, so no offers thanks all the same.
Yes Ciera, very good point, the deal will be handing over the name and the group following, and the income comes from advertising on site so no actual items to hand over as such but a good point well made :)

But you said this in your first post?

…along with some prime land in Zindra

So did you mean the land goes with the business, but the land isn't available by itself?

I might be off base here but why can't the "buyer" join the group and the "seller" (who I imagine would also be the owner of the group) make the "buyer" an owner......then the "seller" resign as an owner of the group by selling the group (and all group owned assets) to "buyer" at an agreed upon price?

The content would be a problem though I think.

Spot on Dekka, unless i decide the joint deal isnt feasable in which case the land will go on its own.

Daisy, the only time I've seen this work, the person involved sold their avatar, inventory intact. Considerably simplified any permissions questions I'm sure, but it would've been a nightmare if the account hadn't been a purely business alt.

I thought it was illegal to allow anyone else to have your avatar let alone to sell it?

Anyway -

Why not simply tell the person the business comes with the land, and set the land for sale with objects included.

Put your basic original post here into the land description and put it on XStreet talking it up even more.

If they want to pay more for the business name they will. I assume it is a club since letting someone sell your products is more complicated.

If they don't want the business they will probably offer you less.

Another possibility would be to hire someone new to manage the place. And keep paying tier.
