GREETINGS

I'm going to buy a net-book, to remain connected to the net during my travels!

I was wondering= Does SL run on this kind of pc? Does anyone try it or know something about it?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

A friend of mine did try it on her new Acer netbook. It did run... but that was all one could say about it. It was slow (not enough memory), graphics were far from optimal and so on and on...

I have no idea about other netbooks, but my first impression is... no...

One possibility is using the netbook to connect to a real computer back home using VNC or remote desktop. Then you can use SL over that. I've done it a few times and although I can't really do fine motor control over it, like building or whatever but at least I can teleport places, pay and talk to people and more or less move around.

I can run it on my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (1.6 ghz processor, 1 gig ram, Intel 945 GPU, 8 gig SSD) very, very slowly. It's ok on an empty sim but I TP'ed to neva's just to see how long it would take to rez a full sim. 15 minutes later there were only a few AVs and pieces of furniture rezzed.

I run SL often on my Acer Aspire One. I have the graphics turned down to low and performance is good with moving around and rezzing.

It does not look as good as with a high end graphics card but it is still very usable and very handy for when on the move.

Net Books are only designed to do Email, web surfing and some minor tasks. Not graphic intensive stuff like games or SecondLife.
Install SLim to keep connected without the graphics.
Don't get one if you expect to run Sl. They may run it but they aren't designed for it.

Get a Macbook Air.

Assuming you have the extra green to spend.

I disagree, they are just a low end PC like any other that uses the Intel integrated graphics accelerator.
No PC is designed to run SL. Many people are using the Intel GMA series of graphics cards in a variety of laptops and run SL everyday.
Sure they don't get top performance like with an Nvidia gfx card but it runs just fine in most cases with low graphics settings.

Considering their size the netbooks pack in a lot of power and as I stated above as long as the graphics settings are kept low you can run SL with good performance on at least the model I have.
Even without SL, these little netbooks are also far more capable than for just email and web surfing. In addition to SL use, I use mine for such things as graphics editing in GIMP, playing music and videos, office documents (wordprocessing, spreadhseets etc.) and playing games.

Agreed on the other uses for a netbook mentioned... (although I disagree on the photo/graphics editting. The screen of netbook is just too small to do that effective for me).

So yes, SL may run on a netbook, but not in a way that would be enjoyable... at least not for me. I mean, one of the things of SL are the graphics that make it nice. Running it on very low graphics is for me a sandwich without cheese.

And to that, the screen of a netbook is for me just too small for to enjoy SL.

If you want mobility for SL, invest in a good laptop. One with good specs as a strong processor, good graphics card (no mobility set, but a real graphic card), enough memory and so on and on.
