Gothic Clothing makers, why do you do this?

I spend a lot of time looking at stuff on slx and I've noticed that a lot of the all black men's outfits are photographed against a black background.

Now I realise black is a goth color and popular amongst goths and vampires, but honestly, wouldn't it be easier to see a black outfit if it's pictured on, say, a lighter background?

I've passed over a lot of things simply because I can't see detail very well when you have a lot of black on black.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have gothic inspired design for men in pink silk that are on onrez.
I love gothic/punk/new wave/historical inspired fashions that aren't black myself
that is why I make them.
I even got corseted men's jacket in shiny red and black repitilan type texture
with white shirt and pants there.
My background sometimes is in black because it looks betters but not all the time
sometimes I use green or other colors but I don't use SLX yet.
They don't sell very often but I enjoy making them.
Biggest problem I have is the fashions are very "gay" and effeminate and not very
many really seem interested in that and I am perfectionist and often I don't put them out
when I make them because I always think I can improve upon them.

Yes. I feel that if the 2d picture of the item doesn't adhere to some simple design principles, how can I expect the 3d version to have any craftsmanship?

I have the same problem with pictures of ill fitting outifts, or models with weird proportions. Sometimes I buy threse things anyway simply because men's clothing is so lacking in choices. They can turn out better than in the picuture, but usually I don't buy them.

I think this is why I started collecting non-human avatars, so I wouldn't have to shop for clothes and have to choose between black, metallic sharp spikey things (with black), or goofy lookin' T-shirts.

True sometimes photos of product aren't as good but you can always
ask the designers or creators to model the product, if they aren't willing
to oblige you don't have to buy it.
If anyone approached me about the things I made or wanted something special
I would be more then willing to assist them in anyway they would like providing
I have time to do so.
I personally prefer working one on one with people whenever I can.

Honestly, if something is not black, putting it on a black background so it shows up better makes sense. But I'm talking about some of the actual black outfits. RFyre is one of those clothiers that puts black outfits against black backgrounds. So does Avid. I just wonder why, because it just makes things really hard to see.

And I totally agree with the typical non-jeans attire for men. Most of it is rather...ah...flamboyant.

I like the baroque and victorian styles, but enough with the MCR lacy ruffles.

I wouldn't put a black textured clothing item on black background but
my clothes I make I try to make tintable textures that are modifiable so they can choose
the colors they want.
I am still fine tuning baroque and Victorian era style hand drawn fabrics and fashions issue for me is how to get details right so that I feel proud to share or sell them.
I don't like my hand drawn lace ruffles yet so I haven't shared them publicly.
I am not fond of prim attachments or flexibles unless when it is required.

Hell, that is better (and the opposite) of a particle store I was in yesterday that was so full of clashing and changing colors that the whole place was out of focus the entire time - and I'm on a new machine attached via fiber optics, 30 Mb all the way. Spinning colors, particles that couldn't rez before they disappeared altogether, flashing floor (why the hell have a flashing floor in a place selling floating particles?), you name it, they threw it in.

You wondered if they stayed in their own store long enough to see what it looked like. I know I left quick enough. I think, somewhere, they had what I was looking for, but I thought I was about to have an episode or something...

Sometimes it also people don't see things in same others do with their creations.
I got this new RP place that moved in where I am living basically put up concrete every where, fenced in several area so some of neighbor literally got cement walls on 3 sides of there property or totally fenced around with prims hanging over their property, generating tons and tons of lag I go no clue why.
Ground level I am stuck with 3 fps, 400 meters up where my office and gallery is I got 5 fps.
The new neighbors probably have no clue that they are making things uncomfortable for
their neighbors or just don't care.
I also think it is case of there certain things that look different on those who have
higher end computers versus a machine broke artist who can't afford the high end stuff.
I don't see the lights and certain things my friends can on their computers.
My friends often will tell me if display or something is working on their computers.
Heck if I make high detailed shimmering fabrics off world half time the effect changes
I can't see unless I am able to increase my graphic settings even then often sometimes.
I have to depend on friends with higher power graphic computers for better photo quality or
tell me if things are off because I just can't see what they can.
I got Nvidea 6200, 768 ram, 2533 ghz and 7mb dsl connection and I am struggling
often.
Yet I have designer friend who has lower powered computer then I have she has 800mhz, Nvidea 4400 and close to dial up connection type cable isp and I have no clue she does the quality images she does for her creations and she makes pretty high quality things.
I got another friend with lower quality system who does amazing detailed things but
he uses expensive 3d software that he got as a gift who does really interesting low lag
texture related builds and clothes.
I have another who runs a successful business with 800mhz and similar video card as I have and shares his internet with low end server but he can't see the glow feature in SL.
