Does anyone know where/how I can obtain my SL 'global' x and y coordinates for my Island ? All Islands/Regions have a set of x and y coordinates (0 to 256) applicable to that Island/Region, however I need to know the coordinates of the Island/Region within the SL grid.

I'm trying to programme an aircraft to fly within the confines of my Island however the programmable waypoints are based on full SL global positioning.

Thanks..Perre..:)

I'm not sure it's possible to do it on a "global" scale. Only coordinates I've seen are on a "sim" scale, such as "Fushida,X,Y"

One suggestion I can make is to take an object, set it at the area you want and get the X and Y off of it. I think there is another way, but I'm not in world right now to find out.

Help / About Second Life when you're on the sim.

You'll see the X and Y (in m) in global coordinates, round down to the nearest multiple of 256 to get the corner and go from there :).

Bingo!!

I knew there was bound to be somewhere you could get the full global position for a sim.

Thanks for that..problem solved.

On a somewhat related note, is there a way to get accurate local coordinates on a plot of land. I'm interested in Mainland but assume it would the same for private sims.

I know the various methods for physically doing this manually, but that is time consuming and not the most accurate method.

What I'm looking into is the possiblity of organizing some of the land owners and considering a sim reorganization. There are three or four land owners that own roughly 3/4 of the sim in question. Most own 1 or 2 large plots and several smaller plots. With a bit of effort, some luck, and a little land swapping I think it's possible everyone could end up with larger single properties.

Has anyone ever attempted anything like this? I realize there are numerous potential pitfalls that may deem this extremely difficult if not impossible.

I'm sure there are all manner of scripted solutions you could use, but in my opinion, none are necessary. Land is divisible in 4M increments. By keeping that in mind, it's ridiculously easy to tell exactly where the borders of any plot are. Simply place a prim at each corner, and round its X,Y coordinates to the nearest multiples of 4. Even for the most convoluted of plot shapes, this only takes a few seconds at most.

As for figuring out how to divvy up a region, I'd suggest you simply draw a map. On a 256x256 image, each pixel will represent exactly one square meter. Draw your lines wherever you want (remembering that mutliples of 4 are key), and then, once everyone has agreed to it, simply divide the land the same way in-world.

If it helps, slap the map onto a 256x256 megaprim, set it to semitransparent, and use it as a guide. As long as the prim is located dead center in the sim (128x128), the lines will be accurate.
