I'm a little confused about guns, it seems like you always have to buy guns + hud that only works in a specific sim, but isn't there any universal type of weapon that works on any combat-enabled land?

Can someone fill me in on how this works and where I can buy guns that will work anywhere?
Also, what about push weapons? Can someone tell me where to get ahold of these things? (Griefing tools I guess... but my and my friends just want to shoot the crap out of each other on my friends land..)

Push weapons won't work in a large part of SL, because most SL residents don't appreciate getting shot at by strangers, and as soon as land owners had the option to turn off Push, most of them did so.

Same goes for "Damage". Very few sims are actually damage enabled, so a "Gun that will work anywhere" won't exist.

The weapons that you have seen which work in concert with some sort of HUD, showing health ratings and the like, are in most cases a serious attempt to set up a weapons system that is consentual - IE: The guns/swords/etc. can only have an effect on other players who are voluntarily wearing the same weapons system. Samurai Island has a system that they use. There's Spellfire for the fantasy and swordplay crowd, etc...

If you and your buddies want to play "shoot-the-crap-out-of-each-other", on your own land and with each other, then just agree on a weapons system that you all will use, set up your combat zone on your land, and have at it. It's your land, your rules, and everyone who can get "hit" has agreed to be a target. Like going out to an approved Paintball range. Go have your fun.

But if you expect to have running battles through other people's land, think again. That's a one-way ticket to a rap sheet as long as your arm, as everyone you trample over who did NOT agree to your war game files abuse reports against you and your buddies, for griefing. Eventually you'd get banned, just as surely as if you and your pals would get arrested in real life if you started a paintball fight in a Wal-Mart or a local mall.

I love my custom M1911A1 .45 ACP by Gunslinger Kurosawa.

It looks great, it shoots great, and it has a variety of ammo. The gun will fire (make noise and all) anywhere at all. The ammo will work anywhere scripts are enabled, although the effect of the "hydra shok" seek-and-destroy push rounds is much reduced in push-restricted areas.

Your target does NOT have to be wearing a weapons HUD in order to get blasted.

For melee weapons like swords, you do have to both be wearing a combat HUD...if the swords are so-called "safe zone enabled" weapons. What that means is that they CAN do damage anywhere...but only to avatars who are also using that combat system.

You can find weapons that work with most of the more prevalent combat systems, but they will cost more generally, since there will be money going to more systems designers. I think there is one system that makes its money from selling the combat system to the sim owner, but not sure.

Anyway, just keep looking - multi-system hardware exists for most weapon types. The trick is to get the one weapon you want in the system you want. Getting a overdone superautomatic of make believe caliber in multiple systems is easy, since the maker's focus is on making something he or she can sell to as many people as possible. Some designer makes a Colt Navy revolver to exact scale and appearance is more likely to care less whether it is a big seller - he or she wants it used in, say, Tombstone and doesn't care about a Starwars sim. Same with a make believe sword as opposed to a basket hilt or a Bowie knife or Strider's or Gandalf's sword.

i have plenty of guns that i have bought and i few that i made(one witch is on sale now)
and they all work with many huds,

what Ceera Murakami said about the gun and hud is pretty much the only way
you are gonna be able to have any gun battles in SL, and to have a hud that you
and all your friends agreed on is much better than the built in damage system,
the damage system that is built in is kinda clunky and its an after thought and
plus when you die you automatically gets teleported home and you will have to
teleport back and you will prolly get killed again b4 you even have a chance
to rez.

the hud/comat systems made by other residents have a much better interface and
works in almost any area (as long as build and scrips are on) and you wont get sent
home when you die eather, you will only fall in the spot you were killed in and will
hop back up in 30 secs to 1 min(some huds may have you moved back to a safe
area).
