Offline IMs to email

I'm just wondering if this problem is affecting others as well?

For the last few weeks I've stopped receiving all my offline IMs to email. I do still receive some of them, but every other IM never arrives. It's not that I'm getting my IMs capped, I still received them in-world. It's just a pain in the proverbial when I'm using my laptop that doesn't run SL.

Anyway, I decided to submit a ticket about this only to be told...



So is this bugging anyone else, or is it just me?

Hmm... I do receive offline IMs, but not all of them, and content gets lost when people hand me something while I am offline. Quite annoying, but on the other hand: my emailbox is easier to manage ^^

Yep, happens often enough to make me realize that this is probably not a reliable form of communication

I just looked into the issue of message that I was missing this morning (on a Yahoo.com account).

Seems that SOME IMs end up in their spam filter, along with IMs from one of my groups. Yahoo is known to be a tad strict on perfectly innocent mail.

Interestingly, some of the IMs that got trashed were from a person who, for most of the time, has no trouble getting IMs forwarded correctly, so the sender PERSON isn't the issue, but certain SL servers may be.

Offline IMs to e-mail has been borked for me for weeks now. I only get group notices from a single group. The rest of my IMs don´t come through. Very annoying!

Hotmail started dropping over half of my IMs. Yahoo seemed to work at first, but now a few of those are going missing too.

i get all my messages via email. but i am not using hotmail or any other free mail accounts like that with this SL account.

Used to use hotmail and it 'lost' roughly half my IM emails. I'm using gmail now and while there is some issue of 'lumping' my object IMs into one batch, I'm not losing any.. unless my IMs get capped. Need to turn off the lucky chair's notification apparently.

Not doubting you, but how do you know you get them all? I can only verify things like rental box payments that show up in the transaction log, but didn't go through to email. Who knows how many personal IMs go missing, because there's no way to check those.

I'm not sure if I'm not getting them! However I get plenty that go into my spam filter on yahoo. I also get im's going to mail when the person and I are online and talking to each other, then they ask me why I haven't replied and I find the im went to email instead of me and I get that IM when I log back in.

If the personal IMs are not capping inworld, then you can verify by logging in because even though they are sent to email, they are still saved and shown to you on next login. However, if you are hitting the point where IMs get capped, then you are correct in that there is no way to verify what might be missing.

Along these same lines, I am also somtimes not getting group notices - inworld and sent on to email - or sometimes getting them many many hours late. I know this because I have multiple accounts that belong to the same group and not all of the accounts are getting all of the same notices or not getting them at the same time. If it was JUST an email issue, then I would expect the account to always get them inworld at the time that they were sent, if logged in, or immediately upon logging it, and that is what is not happening.

i guess i can't be 'certain'. but everytime i get an email, there is a message waiting. and every time i've had a message waiting, there was a complimentary email. so far.

Does anyone know what the limit is before ims get capped?

i'm strictly guessing from a distant memory of this discussion before, but seems like 10 might be the cut off.

I have had no such problem with offline IMs. Mind you, I use gmail. Try it with gmail.

According to the Knowledge Base, you can receive 100 before capping:

"The number of incoming IMs we store for each Resident is 100. This number includes inventory offers, group invitations, and group notifications as well as instant messages."

I think the knowledge base is somewhat outdated. I don't get anywhere near 100 before it maxes out. 10-20, maybe.

if you buy anything on SLX while not logged in, you're lucky if you even make it all the way to 10.

Yeah. . . . the 10-20 seems a little bit more reasonable. Even with the 4 combined (inventory offers, group invitations, group notices and IM's) I get nowhere near that in a day.

strangely actually i get occasionally the opposite - all my ims offline in email, but when logging in i arrive in one of these 'blackouts' where account balance says 'loading' and friends list says 'waiting', and my ims won't show up either, capped or otherwise... relogging after a few mins seems the only way to fix.

i do think though i have had very rare probs (probably just a 'matter of timing' somehow) where an expected email from a prim - usually a 'shutdown' notice from my vends probably encountering a blackout period - won't make it out, as if the email server itself timed out. are the sims soft-resetting, or maybe lagging out during backup??

I tested with an alt -- I managed to get 25 IMs and then they were capped inworld, whereas 30 were sent and went to email.
