I downloaded the Candidate release. It will not open for me, but freezes up on the clearing cache screen. I guess it is my graphics because my Dimension 2400 has an Intel Extreme Graphics i845 GV chipset. I see on the requirements that SL requires 945 chipset or higher. My question is this: if I cannot upgrade to the new Candidate version, will I still be able to use the version I have to open and come to SL?

Most Release Candidate and First Look updates are forced. Since these clients are known to be unstable and are still being actively debugged, LL prefers that only the latest version is used. (^_^)

You can use the currently-"supported" version, yes. But LL have said that in 2-3 weeks they are planning on rolling out the current Release Candidate.

It would be in your interests to try to find a way to make it work, whether that is a JIRA or playing around yourself.

Short of that you could look at some of the other clients, like Nikolaz (sp?), but there is no telling how long those will keep working.

I wish you luck.

Also, check the blog... When the RC goes final, there will still be some allowed older versions of the standard client. I'm sure LL understands what they have to lose if they put the old client completely to sleep. (=_=)

When I opened SL last night, there was an upgrade for the Candidate to download, which I did. Surprisingly, after downloading, I was able to open SL up. So it looks like it is working now! Keeps fingers crossed ......
Thanks for your replies, I appreciate any help I get because I am so new to this fun new pasttime!
