Textures & Eyedropper Revisited

Ok, like the third time the forums have timed out on me after a long post. Need to copy before posting... frustrating!!

Anyway, I am trying to copy a texture from one side of a prim to the other. I own the prim.

From what I understand I need the texture in my inventory for it to work with the eyedropper. I can't seem to "take" the texture into my inventory. (its on a building I purchased that I have all rights but transfer on) I can right click and say "take copy" but it will take the whole PRIM. I can use edit and "select texture" to target the right wall/texture and do the same "take copy" but nothing shows up in my inventory anywhere.

WIthout the ability to snag the texture off the PRIM it appears I cannot copy the face of one wall to the other. Or am I missing something?

Thanks.

You are correct that you cannot take the texture off of the prim and then have it in your inventory. Buying the build does not buy you the rights to the texture in this way. If the texture itself were in the contents of the prim then you could drag it from contents into your inventory and apply it to the surface.

Right. You own the full-perm prims, not the full-perm texture.

The stoopid thing about this is that you apparently own *copy* perms on the prims. So, in theory, one could take prims copied from the build as raw material, and morph them into the shape of the prims you were trying to texture (assuming the same face could be the one textured in the original and new prims--I mean, if it's face 1 with the texture, that's never gonna be the inside of a hollow or the top of a cylinder, etc.).

It's also possible somebody has that texture--it might even be one of the common freebie textures you just haven't picked up yet.

(By the way, when you get 503's, try to just backspace to get the page you tried to submit, and try again. Well, works for me anyway. Several times, this post, in fact. :p )
