I recall that there is a way to add another participant to an IM chat, so you can have three or more in total, but I don't know what it is.

Can someone tell me how to do it?

Thanks so much!!

If they are all on your friends list, you can just highlight who you want and open an IM. I don't know of any way to add someone who isn't on your friends list, and I don't think you can add someone to an existing IM chat, although those would be pretty cool features.

If it's a Conference IM, you can add others to it by dragging their calling card into the list (the list of people in the IM session)

Oh thanks!! But this brings the next Q... how do you start a Conference IM??

Sorry if this is a noobie question, but I am somewhat one still.

He Meya and welcome to the forum :)

The conference IM is what Trout refers to in his post, as in an IM conversation with more than one person on your friendslist.

Happy chatting

:)

Wow! I didn't know that about the calling card.

But to start a friends conference, select each person you want by holding down the ctrl key and left clicking their name. Then IM the same as if you are talking to one person.

And a warning, based on my experience - they are VERY flaky. I haven't had much luck keeping one going for more than a few minutes before someone drops out, or I find that some of those invited can't join - don't see the tab. Has anybody else had a lot of luck with them?

They do work, but if someone drops out and then wants back in, the whole conference has to be restarted. Don't quote me on that though. That's why I was glad to see the post about dragging a calling card into IM. Maybe this will solve that problem?

In our theatre productions, we use sometimes use friend's conference to communicate with one another during the show. But usually it's easier to just form a special group for that purpose. Also friend's conferences can get laggy at times.

I use them all of the time. They are great, especially if your neighbors live close by then they dont have to listen to you chatting.

In your Inventory you can create a new folder in your Calling Cards folder and name that folder for the selections of friends you want to Conference ie: "Girlfriends" or "Project Managers".

Drag copies of their calling cards into the new folder.

Right click on that folder. At the bottom of the popup menu is "Start Conference Chat"

Very useful for certain purposes where you don't want to spend $L100 to start a group for a temporary project or situation. And faster then ctrl clicking the same names over and over.
