Little-known UI tools?

I was wondering what tools people have found that they find really useful within the SL UI, such as the client and server menus.

I found a cool one just a minute ago (Thats what sparked the thought)

Client>UI>Show COlor under cursor

Show the RGB values of the color under your cursor at any given time, shows it on the bottom, a little to the right of center.

client -> rendering -> features ... turn off things like clouds, particles, animated textures

client -?>charater tests -> enable afkk/idle (uncheck)

show admin options (shouldn't do anything and yet it lets you access and use some things that you otherwise can't) fun for chcking out what all those godmode features really are =) even if they don't work

quiet snapshots to disk
hi-rezsnapshots

view -> (all the beacons menus section)

tools -> select only my objects

client -> disable camera constraints

file -> save texture to disk

and a dozen others

joystick flycam

It may sound not particularly useful without a joystick, but if you do enable it without a joystick it locks the camera position so that you can walk around without the camera moving.

Useful for checking what you like like from the front when walking etc.

1. "show admin options" shouldn't do anything, but:

It actually allows you to activate tp button in profiles, to send tp's to people which have 'show online status only to friends' switched on...

If this is a good thing or not, is up for discussion. But sometimes it is useful.

2. http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/12/13/tip-of-the-week-15-how-to-get-texture-info/

3.
In the past, i tended to use 'hide selection' to be able to select objects which were inside other objects, without having to actually modify the outer 'hull'.
(Select outer prim, switch on 'hide selection', select inner prim, switch off 'hide selection'.)
Nowadays, with more reliable undo on linked sets, i tend to simply move/undo the outer prim though.

4. CTRL-SHiFT-F1 (hide interface), good for snapshots/movies

5. disable camera constraints should be sticky...

6. ctrl-shift-1 stats window, use it all the time to quickly check sim stats/fps etc.

7. ctrl-n (show hide beacons), esp scripted, as it's a much better way to find alpha prims than using show/hide transparent, esp. with a lot of particles going on.

8. tools->select only movable. Have it switched on continuously, to prevent me accidentily moving/selecting (locked) floorparts/walls, while doing drag selects.

9. tools-> 'show inner selection', have it switched off continuously, because it unclutters screen while building

10. grid options->grid size set to 0.125 and subdivisions on (whatever it's called). Allows me to work on grid almost 90% of the time, even on small objects. (Requires some practice and steady 'mousehand'. But saves a LOT of time.)

11. "Align to grid" (I think Z with chat closed). Useful to align multi-object inventory sets, which were aligned to grid to be aligned to grid again, after rezzing them. (Can't align multi object prim selection on root prim to grid easily in SL anymore, without using numbers). Doesn't work all the time, but often it does.

12. Texture 'copy/pasting' using texture tab:
1. First shift select all sides you want to texture, then lastly select a face which is already textured correctly (texture + settings). Click texture picker and just click select, then tab through all widgets on texture tab to quickly, to 'paste' all settings to other faces.
Also works on complete objects by switching to object mode, then switching back to texture mode and shift selecting another face.

Is there one central repository for all of these functions? A tutorial? I've tried looking in the wiki and support pages, and neither of them have been extremely helpful in terms of what each function does, and how best to use it.

I thought disable camera constraints became a sticky at the last version release. I know I don't have to set it any more (and I used to set it all the time).

I like the new Lag Meter - helps me see what is going on. I use the FPS indicator (CRTL-SHIFT-1) to fine-tune my graphics settings so I get a decent performance and don't bog down my system too much, depending on whether I am working, or cruising around, playing "tourist".

Turning off the clouds I do quite regularly, because we often work with development platforms up in the sky, and it helps me see who is down on the ground.

Animation Info shows what priority animations are and what is playing for you (and everyone else, so don't have it on in crowds, LOL)

It helps to know what can play with what and why that big name dance maker's anims don't get along with others (why, oh why didn't they upload them at priority 2 or 3???)

Found a couple really cool ones just now..

Client>Rendering>Info Displays>Points

Use that right and you can make a cityscape even more luxurious ^_^

also, in windlight only I assume

Client>rendering>info displays>glow Only shows things based on their WL glow factor, which can look really cool or really dull depending on where you are.

also, client>rednering>info displays>pick render

It gives the same effect as taking a snapshot with the object matte selected

So you know about renderglow then?

Client - Debug Settings - Type in Renderglow - change the value to True

Then, all textures with a full bright texture will glow

It's a cool effect!

O.O didn't know about that but awesome!

The glow that the one above showed for me was the normal windlight glow effect like from the texture tab.
ETA :: Same effect. If that is available outside of windlight, then I suppose windlight auto-sets iot to true, already was for me, when i set to false it got rid of all windlight glow

client>rendering>info displays>texture priority

Not sure what exactly its doing.. but covered my head in pretty yellow boxes =P

also,

client>rendering>info displays>occlusion

Shows a less full on wireframe essentially, all in a 'matrix green'.

Only for prims as far as I can tell

Also, quick tip for snapshots in windlight!

If you want a really nice cloud reflection in water at night, then turn off the sky

ctrl alt shift 7 will do that.

It gets rid of the colors in the sky background, so the water reflects clouds more accurately. Works during the day too, and causes a similar effect as turning distance multiplier all the way down in the environment settings.

During the day causes the sky to go black, so tat can be odd

doesnt appear to be mentioned, but enabling admin options by itself also allows you to fly in no fly zones.
