good evening everyone well im into building as some of u recall me wanting to buy a bunch of land and rent it. instead i decieded to learn to build first. and its cheaper and fun. but my question is. i am building a house my first one. and i may want to sell it but how do u put it in a box and sell it ? and when u put it in a box . does the prim count go down to just 1 prim for the box so the house isnt taking up like 300 prims or so? i know if i rez the house how many prims is there but if i put it in a box to sell . am i then only wasting one prim? so i can sell other stuff cause when i get a 512 plot i wont have enough prims to put all my stuff hope this makes sence . and is there a average prim count on houses? mine is a 4 bedroom house with a garage. and its not done and im up to 130 prims or more now

Hey there - First thing if u have not done so alread is join the Builders Exchange group inworld- lot's of friednly folks willing to share knowledge and ok to distribute stuff. Once you have your build done you can use the freebie Builders Buddy to box it up or pay for one. I had similar debate with myself recently for my Rain Forest World and went with Rez-Faux on the recommendation of several more experienced folks. The packed box only takes one prim. Suggest also u pick up some freebie full perm buildings and take them apart for experience. IM me in world and I will be happy to share assorted beginning building info and handy tools. Good luck and welcome to the delirium.

When you've finished building your house, take it back into inventory and note what folder it's in.
Then rez a cube on the floor, name it "House, boxed" or something like that, and go to the Contents tab. Drag the house you build from your inventory into the Contents panel of the Edit window.
Go back to the Objects tab, set the box for sale at whatever price you want, and set the left click option to "Buy object". Set your permissions to however you want (I recommend mod/copy but no-transfer for houses). Texture the box however you wish (maybe with a photo of the completed house.
And that's it. Your mansion in a box that will only take up 1 prim when you display it in your store.
If your house is VERY large (more than 30m across, and/or more than 255 prims) you won't be able to link it all together in one piece, so you'll need to use something like Rez Faux to artificially link it so the buyer can rez it all together. Explaining that is probably best left to the Rez-Faux instruction manual.
Average prim count on houses depends on the size of the house and the land it's meant to go on. People don't generally like wasting more than 20-25% or so of their prim count on the building, so if you're building a 20m x 20m house for a 1024m parcel, (total 234 prims allowance), you should be looking at a maximum of 60 prims for the house. Much more than that, and people don't have enough prims left to furnish it. My current house is 21% of the land's total allowance and I still struggle to have enough prims left.

The prim count of a house determines the amount of land it takes to support it. Most land is 117 prims for each 512sq.m. -- so a house that will fit comfortably in an area 16m x 32m might want to use perhaps 30 or 40 prims to be attractive to buyers who will need prims for furniture and landscaping, etc. Houses for larger lots can use more prims, but it's important to realize that each prim costs the buyer something: they need to pay for the land that will support that prim, and that prim is one that they can't use for something else they may want to rez on their parcel.
So, while there's no standard prim count for houses, the number of prims used will certainly affect who might be in the market for a particular house. Shopping around prefabs may give you a feel for how many prims comparable houses use--and looking closer you may pick up some tricks for how to maximize the effect generated by each prim.
