I have purchased several items that will not open. When I try to I get a message that I'm not allowed to on this land. It will not even work where I bought the items. Most of the time I can open items at a spot on my "home" site so I must be doing it right. Do I have to own land myself?
Thanks for help, VB

If the location you're at doesn't have Build enabled, you can still open your package using this method:
Open Inventory and create a new folder; Wear the box with your new item(s); Right-click>Edit the box; If necessary, click the 'More' button to expand the Edit window; Select the 'Contents' tab; Left-click and drag your items to the folder you created in Inventory; Detach the box.

Whether Build is enabled is entirely up to the owner of the land. Try public sandboxes.

Ann,
When I drag the items to the new folder I see a little lock and "X" in a circle. It wont allow me to move the items. emm Im pretty sure I followed your instructions correctly.

( I bought this twice , 2 differents logins and neither work ) oh oh If it's a HUD, it may not actually be boxed...the symbol for a box is the same as all other prim objects.

since no one mentioned it, you can always go to a public sandbox and rez items there.

( I bought this twice , 2 differents logins and neither work ) oh oh That (the document pic) sounds like it's the script inside a HUD. A HUD (it stands for Heads-Up Display) is something that you wear on your screen, rather than on your avatar, and is usually scripted to do various things when touched. Look at this blog post: http://sl4nowt.wordpress.com/2008/07/16/the-basics-02-inventory-icons-explained/Does that 'document' pic look like the 5th image down: the script icon? If my suspicions are right, then the object you're trying to open is just the outer 'case' for that script. It doesn't need to be opened; it needs to be attached to a HUD point on your screen. Right-click the item in your inventory and select 'Wear' from the menu. Now look at it in your inventory, and there will be a line added to it, telling you where it's being worn. Does it tell you it's worn on something like Center, Top Right, or similar? If so, then it's a HUD and already attached to your screen, in which case you should be seeing some kind of display on your screen.

Slightly OT, but related

In my store, I have set the plot permissions to allow anyone to rezz and auto return to 10 min (probably 5 min would be sufficient, but I'm not having problems with this time). This gives plenty of time to customers to open their boxes and maintain the store pretty clean.
To block objects with nasty scripts in it, I have just disallowed scripts in it.
I really don't know why so few stores and malls do this. Am I missing some point?
