Slowdown

Okay, I've tried everything and I'm a bit irritated.

In the past week or so, no matter where I go, island or mainland, no matter how few prims or avatars, nor any way I set the graphics options (neither low nor high, same problem), I have extreme slowdowns. I have changed nothing at all on my pc before this happened. I thought, okay, net connection... so I tested that, fine. Tested my graphics card on other highly demanding games and they ran smooth.

Does anyone know what in the world is going on? I even re-downloaded the client! I've tried going to all sorts of areas, but there's always a major slowdown. I even tried it in the middle of the night. I just don't know what it is.

Also, my card:

VisionTek Radeon X1550 and 256 MB of ram.

Actually I've noticed lots of weirdo stuff in the past few days.

These include general sloooooooooowness, constant packet loss red bar, places rezzing very very slowly, walking into the ground everywhere not just on sim borders, building nightmares, attachtments not showing unless I click and wear them several times, scripts and notecards not opening despite permissions, you name it, it's not working for me. And no, no changes to system, which is well and truly up to the task, and I have never had problems like these before.

Been wondering whether this is a more widespread problem, or just me.

I'm on the latest Nicholaz client, which have always worked beautifully for me btw, and been wondering whether to try an earlier version where I didn't have those problems. But if others are experiencing similar problems, maybe it's not worth the bother.

This is happening to me a lot, but I have an extremely large inventory, and I'm wondering if something has changed recently which makes this a problem in some classes of sim.

My home sim and the one next door, both older mainland, seem to be consistently bad for the last week or so. Sometimes, with the lag and freezing, it is almost impossible to move.

I've been places where others also complain of lag, but I seem to be particularly affected ... perhaps it's my inventory, or perhaps something about my setup that makes me prone to those memory leaks in the client ...

Anyway, my immediate priority is to reduce my inventory drastically ... a good thing to do, even if that's not the cause :-)

I'm seeing Sally's kinds of problems, and have been for the last few weeks. Seems to be getting progressively worse.

I've done all the standard maintenance and housecleaning stuff on my computer. The problem's either with SL on the server side, or my ISP's been cutting my bandwidth (I use Verizon, not ComCast).

Two or three times now, I've been cut off from my home island by the "Red Map Warning" error. Last night, I kept losing objects while building, or unable to Shift+drag copy prims.

I've seen many of the same problems and they have gottem worse over the past 3 weeks or so. Extreamly slow rez'ing, poor teleporting, lots of packet loss and lock-ups whenever I happen to use the camera controls to spin around. I'm using a fairly new Dell Dimentions Duo 6800 with 2Meg ram and a 256 ATI video card off the fastest DSL Bellsouth offers to boot. With the expected on slought of first timers to SL expected from the up comming crime show next week I don't expect to see any improvement any time soon if ever!

Yep, similar things going on for me too. Ever since last thursday or friday, I have been "crashing" every 20 minutes to an hour. Prior to that time, I never had any issues of crashing unless a sim would go down. The crashes as I call them, don't actually cause SL to stop running, they just stop everything else. I can't move, or have chat messages show up, although IMs that I type continue to make it into the IM box, but the other party doesn't receive them. My audio streams will continue running, eventually the mini map goes red and then nothing happens, I end up logging out and restarting SL. Since it lets me log out, I don't even get to send the crash report. Early last week I had my ISP increase my DSL speed from 756 to 3k. I have no idea why this would cause me issues, but it is the only thing I have changed. I've tried the old school nicholaz viewer and it doesn't help. Does this sound like a client side issue with my ISP? Maybe a memory leak since last weeks updates? It's rather annoying.

since friday`s rolling restart i had to move the network slider so the client would start downloading at full speed again, tp out and it will download at increadibly low speeds again till moving the slider again

not to mention that since friday`s rolling restart the grid has been crap

I've noticed a signifigant increase in packet loss (redline spikes every few seconds) every where I go since late last night even though nothing has changed on my end.

This morning I turned all graphic options down or off but it didn't make any difference.

I'm going to log in and try playing with the network slider and see if it has any effect. I know this has helped speed up texture loading before. Who knows anymore?!?

Sounds like others are having my problems too. It's just irritating since none of my friends have this problem.

I use CTRL+SHIFT+1 to check my frame rate, and it often drops to TWO, yes TWO per second. That's absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to defrag and such now, maybe that will help, though it probably won't, since the only game that has problems for me is SL.

I am also experiencing a big slowdown - on both my home computer and my office computer (10 miles away) Home is a HP and office is a MacPro - both ran SL well until these past few weeks.

I also noticed a sales reduction - for the first time in 2 years and traffic numbers low. So this "lag" not only is effecting the game play - it effecting business.

Another thing I noticed is I am getting many emails saying a purchase was made but buyer did not receive the items. 3 times this week and 5 times last week. Seems asset servers are screwing up too.

So something is going on.

The only odd thing I've noticed is that the camera seems to be glued to my av's head the last couple of days. Sometimes tapping Esc will (temporarily) fix it, sometimes not. :(

Now why does this remind me of LL?

Just posted this in another thread, but it seems relevant here too. This evening I've experience severe server-side lag (time dilation in particular) in two different sims, one of which is nearly empty and should be running fine. The time dilation was around .1 for several minutes at a time, and kept coming back.

Weirdly, last night things seemed smoother for me, but still very slow rezzing, half sims refusing to show up, huge packet loss spikes etc. What annoys me a bit is that it seems quite a few people are having problems, but I can't think of a way to report them, because it's not exactly a single issue.
/me heads for Jira hell to check if something's been reported yet
