What determines which direction one is facing when they land after a teleport? Can it be set to work consistently?

This is something I've wondered about too so I just logged on to do a little test for myself. I logged in facing NE and teleported to 3 places, and was still facing NE every time.

I would have tried several more, including sims with known telehubs- however teleports just broke. (As did several other things, apparently.)

Anyway, it APPEARS as if you simply port in facing the direction you were facing when the teleport began. Also, you can't set the direction that someone faces when setting a landing point.

I'm going to have to do some experiments when I can get in-world. This morning just briefly I tried a couple things and one time it seemed I always ended up facing north regardless of how I started and then moving my landing point it seemed I could set it so I was oriented the way I stood when I set it. I'd really like to be able to control this.

you apparrently can specify a facing-direction in a SLURL.. not sure how well that works though.

This also may be part of why llLookAt is "broken"

Thanks, Winter. Where can I see the code to insert for that? I'm mostly interested in the TPs given through things like the Places tab in Search, though. But knowing the intricacies of the SLURL will probably come in useful.

I just did a series of teleports and it seemed I was facing a different direction on each arrival. When I TPed home, though I was facing the way I always face. I had reset the landing point but still ended up in the old one. That might have been a function of the fact that my connections tonight (had to restart several times) are just plain lousy and maybe the new LP didn't "take." Still, the results look promising.

The default facing direction is North.
SLURL use the secondlife: protocol which only use 4 informations : region name, x position, y position, z position
In the future you should be able to specify the facing direction after a teleport using the lookat argument of llMapDestination

My mistake, yes.. it was llMapDestination I was thinking of that had a "facing" option.

Well now I'm more frustrated than confused. After teleporting around again I'm landing facing all sorts of directions. Regardless of what I do with setting landmarks or landing points on my own lots I'm always facing north. If I can't figure out how to make arriving residents face a certain direction I'm stuck with redoing my whole building or compromising the esthetics or just giving up on the venture entirely. Phooey. This is making me grouchy.

How are people doing this if llLookAt is broken or not in use? (full disclosure: I know only enough about scripting to mess with simple, existing ones)

Would it be considered spamming if I took this over to the scripting forum?

I looked at this a bit when I did some TP's today, and more often than not, was facing generally South... Go figure. I agree it certainly would be good if you could define a consistent direction for arrival facing.

What I've noticed is that if you TP and land at some set point but not at the precise location of a shop or place you are always facing the "beacon" no matter which direction. If you TP to a landmark you set yourself, you always face the direction you were facing when you created the LM. And when you TP home you are always facing the same direction you were facing when you set home. But when you TP somewhere from the map it seems to be random.

That is my observation anyway. :)

LOL Thanks, everyone! I'm just going to stop pulling my hair out over this and go avatar shopping for a while. Inspiration will strike at some point, I'm sure.
